Hi, I've just acquired a 700p in 223 from a fellow CGNer which I am very happy with it was told to me that it liked 69gr Sierra,s . Well I gave it what I had - 55gr Sierra soft point , 55 gr v max , 50gr nos varmint and all give 1/8 min. Of gopher "MOG " no recoil - very nice for watching the show . It has a timmey High end trigger
Is the only upgrade from factory .
Can someone tell me the diff from the H.S 2000 ? Are they built on rem actions ? Are they trued ?

What is a timney geissele trigger? They are two separate manufacturers....

Will we see this rifle in the 1/2 moa challenge?

They are build on their own actions and are not even in the same league as a Remington.

So their a ground up build with HS receivers ? Would they be compared to a Remington with a trued action then ?
Here's another point for opinions, would a trued action have as much effect on accuracy as fine tuned Ammo ?

Without ever having a gun with a trued action , I'll vote for the ammo , don't forget to vote

The HS action is really nice, 3 position safety, enclosed extractor, 700 footprint (pretty sure the top side is same as rem as well). The HS trigger design is really neat I wish they offered it for Remington's, tunes to 1.5 pounds no problem. As far as precision they don't appear to have super tight raceway to bolt clearance, similar to a rem700. I'm going to go out on a limb and say the trued 700 would be every bit as accurate but the HS is a much nicer action.

Thanks , this is what I wanted to know . How about the barrels do they do them in house too ?

Anybody got a pic of this action ?

Sorry boys but HS Precision cuts their own barrels and supply test barrels to many ammo manufactures for testing ammo. This is why they advertise "single point cut rifles barrels" and their process is an art in itself......(I had a factory tour last year after my Wyoming antelope hunt). I also personally know a few guys that work for HS.

The HS precision action is a Rem 700 footprint but their tolerances are much tighter than a Remington and don't have any issues with "high pressure cartridges and firing pin holes....being to large and having to be bushed"

The actions take the same rails or mounts as a rem 700. The triggers are designed by HS and are very simple and very effective....break as clean as the better high end competition triggers.

They make everything in house.....nothing is "farmed out" so as to help keep quality control as high as possible. And also ensures they meet their 1/2" MOA on all rifles up to .30 cal.

They make one of the best "semi custom / semi factory" rifles out there. Trust me I've got three of them and regret selling the fourth.

Good to know about their barrels, not sure why I thought they used krieger (maybe just reading too many forums) I personally believe these actions were designed to be shot in the real world they have ample bolt body clearance which is a good thing if there is any chance of dirt, pine needles or the like. I have built a couple rifles with hs actions and they are skookum. I really like how they do thier ejector.

I heard that back when HS first started, their rifles were built on actions from Rem700s and Win70s. Not sure how valid this is as I can't recall where I heard this info. If this bit is true, they probably used other barrels on early rifles. But they have had their own action now for years.

Rem700 clone, but better machining and tighter tolerances. Trigger is great. Accuracy is phenomenal. I only recall ever hearing one report of accuracy issues on HS rifles.

I have three HS rifles, two HTR and one pro-guide, all three can meet the half moa. They do have a bit more bolt body clearance than what you would see in say a Pierce or Bat action, more in line with the "tactical" crowd (Surgeon). That said they are still not sloppy by any means. It's my favorite action, rem footprint, two lug bolt, winchester safety, the factory trigger is at least on par with a Timney 510 or rifle basix.

You can get a HS stock for the 700P. I built one. Shot great. Then I sold it.

The 700P comes with an HS stock, you don't need to get one for it. I absolutely love my 700P .308, insanely accurate and fits me like a glove. I have no experience with HS rifles but it sounds like it would be everything I like about mine plus that little touch more!
