After just reading the post regarding H-S Precision and their catalog blunder it made me think. I have 2 H-S Precision rifles, a HTR and STR in 308 and have also had in the past a 700P and a Sendero in 300 Win Mag, both which have had H-S stocks. Both the HTR and STR are extremely accurate with their match grade stainless cut rifled barrels however every H-S rifle or rifle with H-S stock has had loose sling swivel studs, and also there are two sling swivel studs, one for the bipod and one for the sling. I have yet been able to mount a sling and bipod (Harris) on each stud due to the studs being a bit too close and ended up attaching the sling to the bipod. I called H-S and spoke to Donny and he said the loose studs were from screwing steel studs into aluminum, I said fine and but how do you rectify the loose stud problem but he had no answer. I asked him about the studs being too close and he said they were designed for the Harris. I told him that I tried to mount both the Harris non-swivel (without the swivel nut) and swivel on an H-S stock using the std Uncle Mike's sling swivels but they were too close. Anyone else had this problem, maybe I am missing something.

I have an HTR in .338LM and a 700P in 6.8, I mounted a Harris Bi-pods on both and had to remove one of the studs just like you said. I only shoot from the bench so having a bipod is move important than a sling for my purposes. Also you can just mount a sling on the bipod if needed.

Get some 5 min epoxy and glue the stud in place. As for the second stud with the bipod on, I have the same problem. I find that the stud under the bipod is to low for a sling anyway. With a long heavy barrel it does not balance properly.

I don't really need a sling on my long range rifles but I plan to install flush mount cups on the side of the rifles just in case I want to use one. That way I can mount them far enough apart and also don't have the bipod or magazine (if it sticks out) digging into my back.

Brownells or Sinclair's (same thing now) sell the cups and swivels and they don't look to hard to install.

I had not tried the sling stud on mine until you mentioned it. Mine does not have the same problem but the sling stud is about 15 degrees off square which may eliminate the problem and it is not loose . . . yet. I would try the bipod on the sling stud but the off square would present a problem unless I set it to square.

yeah I have had the same problem with HS stock - the Sling studs are too close. You maybe able to mount a sling to the second stud if it isn't an Uncle Mike's Sling (i.e. single point latch) but it is definitely not made for the standard hunting sling...

i put my sling on the one closest to the trigger and then put my bipod on and it seemed to work just fine the only problem was that i cant take the sling off without first taking the bipod off it is a really tight fit but worked on mine.

me too

I have two LTR stocks and a PSS stock. All had loose studs. The answer is five minute epoxy. Coat the threads up good, screw in then and let it sit overnight. Be sure to align them where you want then b/c they never move again. Otherwise they are great stocks. I really hate the palmswell on the PSS. I have smaller hands and it just never feels like I have great control of the trigger with my hand semi-open. If you are using a harris swivel pod then the bipod itself has a stud on it which works nicely, but yes the spacing is less than perfect. Otherwise I do like them.

Can't you mount your bipod to your rifle, and then attach your sling to the protruding bits of the bipod? (the two spring-loaded pieces that you squeeze apart, and which grip the swivel stud at their other end)

You can mount the sling on the bipod but all I am saying with a quality stock you should not have to epoxy swivel studs because they are loose. As far as the studs too close together, you might as well have only one if you can't use the second one. I know if if I was making a stock, I would actually mount a bipod to see if it fits the second stud, if too close I would move them a bit further apart. I like H-S products but just find it odd that a company that has been making quality stocks for so long would not have this kind of stuff sorted out.

Try re-drilling/retapping them 1/4-1/2" further back; as the alum. insert inside is usually long enough, but don't go much further; as you could run out of Alum. to tread into and will have to glass it in! Use some red med. strength treadlocking loctite to glue the stud into the alum. insert, re-align properly and let sit overnight!

I put the sling on the bipod. I am not drilling or retapping anything. My whole point is you shouldn't have to for the money you pay. If it was some cheap plastic pos then maybe but I wouldn't waste money on it in the first place.

+1

my only real disapointment with the 2 HS stocks I have (PSS & VSSF-II). the paint/outer coating on the VSSF stock has begun to chip off around the forward sling stud, i presume from vibration of the loose stud durning recoil while shooting off my bipod.

i really love the fit and feel of these stocks, as as they come with the rifle, the loose studs are only a mild anoyance. if Ihad paid full retail and purchased these aftermarket I'd be more concerned.
