H335 in a 303 Brit ?

I see a load listed for it, anyone use it for 180 gr bullets? I found a 7 lb lot of it I had forgot about.

i use it, used cci 250 magnum primers, 39.2 grains makes for a tack driving load in my rifles,
mag primer is the answer with spherical powders, even if its not a magnum cartridge
i find significantly better than std large rifle primers
i use hornady 174gr round nose,

Thanks, I use Remington magnum primers for everything, I have never had any problems with them. About 40 grains makes a lot of shooting with 7 lbs of forgotten powder. This is for a load in a Ross, hopefully it works as well for me.

39 gr leaves a lot of airspace. A magnum primer sounds like a real good idea.

Long ago I bought 15000 magnum primers... From 243 to 45/70 I use them in everything. I don't think I have ever had a hot load because of the primer

What would be the result of using a standard LR primer? A little less velocity? The reason I ask is I have some of Higginson's WC-735 that is supposed to be close to H335 and would love to shoot it in 303 (&308) but I only have LR primers, no magnum primers (yet?).

I have never tested it, but the common thinking on this is firstly standard primers don't work as well in the cold. Also the flame propagation through the powder is not quite as fast, and in theory you might get less accuracy as sometimes it would light fast, and sometimes not. Even if magnum primers are recommended, it does not hurt to give standard ones a try, they may make a difference and they may not.

Interesting ......... Higginsons say the WC-735 is approx 5% faster than H335 so this would give me a starting point of around 37 grains and work up from there? Might just have to give that a try now that Spring looks like it might finally be here!
