I had mixed feelings about it, as I know and like the guy, but...

We don't take kindly to poachers around these parts.

I don't particularly care if it's out of season, over limit, or what have you, but I have very limited time to persue my favorite passtimes in the outdoors, and I always play by the rules, and it makes me draw a hard line when I see someone ####ing breaking the law.

I DO like to believe that if you do the right thing, people will do the right thing by you, so based on what you said, that's what I'll expect.

Yeah - when it comes to poachers, those are YOUR fish they're stealing. It hurts us all to have people doing that.

Some people have to learn their lesson the hard way.

i've been tempted a couple times when i'm fishing up the capilano by the fishery and have to watch 20 a-holes dropping lines in off a ridge trying to snag fish (usually only gouging a chunk off the side of the fish) hoping to 'catch' one and drag it up 25 feet....idiots.

i daydream about kicking them off the edge of the ridge:evil:...
....but that would be wrong, so i never would;)

What happened?

In a nutshell, a guy I know has gotten in the habit of taking home safeway bags full of fish, regardless of size, from the river, on a daily basis. A couple of his roommates actually complained that there's no room in the fridge with all the fish in there...

a**hole.

I'd send the Fisheries Officer to his house to check out the Freezer!!!

No different than the big game poachers, or any other common thieves. Foxer is right, he is stealing YOUR fish and your kids' fish too.

good on you ,
it sucks but poachers help ruin the image of lawful hunters which in turn makes it difficult t omaintain a good hunter-non hunter realtionship, as well as they often do so without regard t othe natural balance of the eco system

It would'nt be hard to fill the fridge with legal fish would it? Does he brag that he is committing infractions?

Kinda sounds like you heard that so and so has a "whole closet full of 'assault weapons and highpower sniper rifles" better send the swat team eh soccer mom?

If you had some real evidence to pass on to the fish cops great, but if you were bringing the wrath of god down on some guy based on heresay from his roomate don't feel so good. A DFO fisheries infraction charge can be some serious bussiness.

I have known alot of 100% legal guys who could amass a pile of fish protien in the lower mainland and not have done one thing wrong.

No. It really doesn't.

Poachers are scum. Oh, i'm not talking about the guy who happens to take ONE fish that's a millimeter below the legal size, but someone who's doing it regularly needs to get busted. I doubt he'd have called if it was a trivial offense or he wasn't fairly confident in it.

Poachers get away with it too often as it is.

Yeah it does unless the informant is saying that he knew with out a doubt that the guy was poaching and had evidence to back it up.

All I read here is that he had some fish in his freezer and his roomate does'nt like that.
If the informant says "yeah I know for sure they are poached fish" then I say call the DFO. If he does'nt know for sure then consider what that same roomate might say about a large scarey looking colllection of firearms.

AS for the signifigance of removing fish from any of the north shore watersheds unless he is killing dollies or sea run cutthroat I would'nt exactly waste the term 'scum' on him.

If you are really keen on this stuff any weekend on the west van docks can net you a bunch of poachers and as mentioned the canyon and a video camera could keep the north van courts busy for a year.

I don't like poachers either but I also, as a firearms owner, understand that a witch hunt can be instigated very easily.

Now people who water thier lawns there is scum (from a fish perspective)

Ha! Would you rather be charged with theft under a thousand or with poaching salmon??? I can assure you the theft charge will be way less inconvinience to you.

as for the scummy big game poachers are they any worse then the trucking companies which mow down tens of thousands of big game animals a year in BC? I am just amazed that people will get up in arms over an illegally harvested moose and mean while the ditches are full of rotting carcasses and know one even blinks. To some degree it is jealouy I figure.
