Just wondering if anybody knows about the quality of
these Hakko 10x42 scopes that were apparently offered to the Israelis as a replacement for the Nimrod scopes that were in service at the time.

Probably ok ... Hakko were Japanese mfr scopes that were early adopters of illuminated reticles and other complex reticle designs... that probably made them attractive as a 'tactical' use scope at a economical price point. Israeli's - like many other militaries - don't have a unlimited budget ... They also are small and have fewer home grown options... very much like Canada.... but with much less friendly neighbors

fwiw the old Tikka catalogues (when Tikka was largely independent) used to illustrate Hakko scopes... I have always thought this was a pretty good endorsement.

If you've ever looked at the original Super Sniper series of scopes, you've looked at a Hakko. Good quality for the money. - dan
There is some debate about Hakko making the SS scopes (http://www.opticstalk.com/who-makes-the-ss-how-good-is-the-bushnel_topic2133.html) it seems that they may have been made by Light Optical Works who have been around a very long time and like Hakko build to order (and spec as requested) but either way both companies can build an excellent product. 'LOW' probably builds the March scopes for all I know.

as you will read in the link there was also a company called 'Nikko Stirling' that produced a scope that was a dead ringer for the 'SS' scopes. I've seen em.
