when i locked the slide back and let go w/ the slide, hammer goes half cocked. any idea why? appreciate any tips from you guys to get these 1911 going. thanks you...

Sear is perhaps rounded off or more likely someone has bent the left finger of the three leaf spring too much in attempting to get a lighter pull. Find a competent 1911 trigger tuner.

Does the hammer/sear engagement look like this or is the angle off one way or the other. I just finished this one a few minutes ago. Probably too little spring tension or someone attempted a "trigger job" Check the full #### notch with a feeler gauge, should be .020" - .018" MINIMUM! Bending the sear spring works good to tweak that last 1/2 pound, it won/t take a 5# trigger to a 2# trigger, there are a few other things that need addressing.

Barrel forward, three leaf spring left finger is Sear pressure, centre finger is Trigger bow AND disconnector, the right finger is the grip safety. Tuning of the leaves involves small change s in the bend of left and centre fingers. Without the sear and hammer in the gun, the centre finger should be adjusted to two to two and a half pounds for a safe trigger. The left finger in conjunction with stoning the sear and hammer - NOT freehand but in the proper jigs - can then yield a three to five pound trigger. Test is to hold the grip safety in, and drop the slide using the slide release. Do it twice with the pistol horizontal and twice with the barrel pointed down to "prove" the setup. Hammer must never fall.

Carlos, after you get a new hammer look up the technical articles on the Brownells website. There's a superb article on how to fully set all three fingers of the leaf springs to get the optimum action and trigger feel.
