Hey guys,

I lately have been having a hammer problem with my 1911. When I press the slide release lever, and the slide goes forward, the hammer goes into a half-#### position. It does not happen everytime, but it happens quite often (even after cleaning).

Does anyone know what could be causing this and how to fix it?

Regards,
Zygy.

Sounds dangerous - By any chance was something polished inside ;) ??

If you didn't have that half #### position you'd be in trouble; definitely bring it to someone who knows 1911's as it sounds like the sear or something else important is worn or broken (sorry I don't know 1911's).

Do you drop the slide down on an empty gun often? If so you are likely looking at a trigger job. This is a big no no with the 1911. I would strongly suggest you send/take to a qaulified smith for repairs. You may be lucky if the sear spring only needs adjusting or worst case a complete trigger job requiring new hammer and sear. Only a qaulified smith would know for sure.

Did you replace the hammer recently?
A friend on mine had the exact same problem when he replaced his stock Norinco hammer with a series 80 hammer. Norinco is based on the series 70 design. If you do indeed have a series 80 hammer simply replace it with a series 70 hammer and presto!! problem solved.

Series 70 and 80 hammers are the same and interchangable. This problem is likely due to either a sear spring problem or else a sear/hammer interface problem.Either way,a trip to a gunsmith is in order

(Almost) All of the above :)

Don't drop the slide on an empty chamber!
Series 70 and 80 hammers are indeed interchangeable. There is a slight difference in the half-#### notch only.
Bend the left leaf of the sear spring forward until the hammer stays up under this (horrible :) treatment, then don't do it any more! It will increase the trigger pull...
Or - send to a reputable 1911 pistolsmith.
