hammer swap on a smith model 10

so is it hard to swap out the hammer on a smith model 10-5 revolver?
i got one with a bobbed hammer and i would like to return it to original.
i have a hammer on the way.
local Gunsmith quoted me 60 bucks to do the swap seems like i should be able to do this myself.
does the hammer drop in or do i have to "fit" it?
any help and or link to a video would be very much appreciated.

Maybe try the gunsmithing thread.

I've had my model 10 apart, full strip down, but haven't changed the hammer. Don't know if any real 'fitting' is required. You might just try to drop it in yourself and see if it works.

I've changed a few S&W hammers. This is not really a drop in change, the hammer will need to be mated to the other lockworks parts in the gun. - dan

well 60 dollars an hour is what he said if all goes well and theres no fitting required so the price could go up from there.

Personally nothing like a gun misbehaving to make me a grumpy puss! Good smith work is money well spent.
