Is there anyone out there who collects "hammerless" levers? Winchester 88s, Finnwolf, Savage 99, Marlin Levermatic, etc.

At one point almost every major manuafacturer had a "hammerless" lever on the market. In my opinion, some very cool guns.

Yea, I forgot that the rugers in the 96 series were hammerless. I have had both the 22 and 44 versions. Very short lever swing, so this make them fast.

Doesn't henry have a new one coming out that is also hammerless?

Yes, I have a Ruger 96 in a 22 mag. I have been collecting hammerless levers for the last 30 years, ever since i first saw my Uncles Winchester 88. My goal was to try and acquire at least one gun from each of the manufacturers that produced one. I thought I had completed the mission until you mentioned the Henry. I will have to investigate that further.

I am hoping that rejoining Nutz will provide me with some new leads to chase down like the Henry. There are still a couple levers in different calibres that I would like to add to my collection.

I have also made an effort to hunt with each of these levers. I promised myself that I would not allow them to just sit in the safe.

I currently have a Winchester model 88 in 308 that I inherited from my father when he died last year. I had hoped that he would use it until he was to old to hunt and pass it on to me then, but fate had other plans. Can't bring myself to hunt with it yet as things are still too fresh, and it still feels like it's "his" gun and not mine. It might take a few years for me to break that one out but I will one day.

I've also owned a Savage model 99 in 300 Savage that I foolishly let got about a decade ago. I bought it when I was drunk. The next day I questioned my sanity a little. It's the only Savage I've ever owned and I loved it. I traded it away for some hard to find ammo for another rifle. I'll get another eventually. Likely in 308 for the ease of acquiring ammunition. They're great rifles.

I had an opportunity to check out Wallz tip on the Henry hammerless and it looks like they have come out with a hammerless lever called the Supreme in a 223 and 300 blackout. I am not familiar with the 300 black out at all. The bullet appears to be the same as a 308 but with different ballistics?

I am familiar with Henry rifles however I would not consider them a common gun here in southeastern Ontario, unless i just hang with the wrong crowd.

I am in the process of confirming the possibility of acquiring a Supreme with a couple of the local gun shops. I am certain that there will be a considerable back log in orders until the "newness" wears off.

There are however a couple of things with respect to the Supreme that makes me think that justin is not going to allow it into Canada. The Supreme appears to leans on the tactical side and comes with a 10 shot clip. Unless a reduced clip is available then that will be a no no north of the border. Also, I believe the barrel is threaded for a suppressor. I would think that even without a suppressor installed the fact that it is capable of having one is going to tighten someone's bureaucratic undergarments.

I would welcome comments from anyone that might be more familiar with the gun if they are out there.

It’s a lever. Mag isn’t limited to five. Threaded barrel can have muzzle brakes put on. If your going to live in fear of something being banned this hobby isn’t for you. Many of us have thousands tied up in banned guns and your worried about something that mite happen. Enjoy guns while you can.

Thanks for the prompt reply Snider Shooter!

I enjoy the the guns that I already have and I also enjoy the pursuit for the ones I will eventually have.

I don't think I would describe it necessarily as fear, perhaps more of a calibration to determine just how long and how hard i will have to work to achieve the goal.

TGMD:

These are not even on the henry site yet, so they are not available even in the US, much less Canada. Hopefully we see these before the end of 2024. Released only at shot show, with 1st quarter hopes, but that is now come and gone.

Even the henry long ranger model is near impossible to get in Canada and that has been out for a while now.

Being a lever, they are not limited to mag capacity, and the threaded barrel is a non issue. Lots of threaded barrels available everywhere.

For hammer-less rifles I have the 4 caliber Win 88's, Ruger 96/44 & . 96/22mag and about 30 Savages from .22hp with multiples in most calibers and models but only one of each in 7-08,284,358,and 375.

Hmmmm, not a "collector" , I enjoy shooting my toys. I'll play anyway:
Savage 99's in 300 Savage,250-3000 Savage,308 and 358Winchester.I'm partial to the Savage99R stocks, great fit for rapid sight acquisition from ready position.

Winchester 88, carbine version . Accurate but "clunky"

Finnwolf, 3 of them all in 308 cause I don't like 243 ;) The Mercedes Benz of leverguns in my opinion. At one point I had 4 but figured 3 was enough and I needed an excuse/alibi o buy a Tangent Theta scope. All the Finnwolfs shoot sub 1MOA 3 shot groups at 100yds.Triggers like breaking glass.

Have a few Marlins, not the hammerless model and I must admit I just can't get into Marlins so far, can't shoot them with the accuracy I like.

It uses AR mags, so the limit is whatever AR mags can use. It is not unlimited because the action is irrelevant to the magazine type. Unless they offer special mags like BCL does, we will be limited to 5 or 10 in Canada.
