Hand guard length vs. A2 front sight gas block

Hi folks, I am looking to build a "traditional" A2 style set up. I am using 20 inch barrel, rifle length gas system and A2 front sight post gas block.
What is the maximum handguard length that can be fitted in? I was told 13 inches but also 12.5 inches. Which one is correct ? thanks for the help.
 
Edited because I didn't read the question properly the first time.

For a straightforward AR15A2 setup there is no need to measure anything, it was all made in one size only. Or are you trying to put a free floating handguard on it?

You’re looking for a 12” handguard. 12.5” will fit but the manufacturer will likely call it a 12”
