Handguard length question

so i got a new upper and this is the first time ive gotten a upper that the handguard is a lot shorter than the barrel.
i didnt think it would bother me but my OCD does not like it.
so im gonna replace the handguard with a longer one.

just wanted to check with people who know more then me, is there any worry about getting too close to the flash hider other than the handguard getting dirty from the powder?

im assuming there is no issue as my 7.5" upper has the handguard starting right where the barrel threading is.
but i think from my measurments that my barrel threads will end up being maybe 1/4" back from the end of the handguard so with the flash hider on will be out from the handguard so thats no issue.

any issies anyone can think of?

im pretty sure i could if i wanted too run a handguard twice the length of the barrel as i cant think of any issues that would arise.

or am i missing something obvious?

was wondering about that, my mind was saying "the gasses will go through the rail no problem"
then the other voice said "ya no"
so as long as i have the flash hider past the handguard im golden!

"Hand"guard is for hands , so I don't think it is wise to put "hands" on where hot gas is coming out. Just my 2 cents.

The only way you can safely cover the muzzle device with a hand guard is if you run a linear comp which expels gases forward. Just make sure your ur hand guard doesn’t go past the end of the linear comp
