So I just finished watching Art of the Dynamic Shotgun, and I'd like to build a small shell holder on the right side of my handguard on my 1100.

I have a speedfeed stock and foregrip now, has any body seen this and have any suggestions on what one could use to accomplish this.

It looks like the picture below, but not with a belt mount. Maybe something custom they've done.

I haven't seen this, but if I understand correctly, you want to put a shellholder on the right side of the foregrip, just in front of the receiver? That sounds like a good idea, actually... are you planning on mounting the shells vertically or horizontally? My preference would be horizontally (parallel with the barrel), but I'm pretty sure you could just take a four-shell holder and mount it sideways onto the foregrip. There's a couple people on here... BadBoyBeeson from S&J (I believe), and Arwen Ace (I think) from TacOrd... you could try contacting them to get measurements for a couple different shell holders, and you might get lucky and find something that fits. Or, get one of BBB's flexible shellholders and trim it down to fit.

In any event, let us know how you go about it, and get some pics of the finished product.

I definately want to mount them horizontaly, parralel with the barrel.

The idea is when the bolt is locked open, slide a shell back in to the chamber, flip the bolt release, and viola, quick loaded round.

My 1100 is at TacOrd now, and then making the trip to Arma-Coat. When it's all done and I have this issue sorted, there will definately be pics.

Hilarious, you posted as I was typing my response.

The velcro option sounds like it would work great, then I could actually have a couple spare dually velcros in the wings and that shell spot would be easy to reload.

Plus I think the velcro holder will have a lower profile agains the handguard.

I guess I have to wait for the doubles to come out.

velcro 2 shot units will be hear at the end of the month.
These will come with extra stripps of velcro just incace you want to move the shells around.
They will be $9,99ea or less, and made just like the other units. light weight and very well made.

Here is a quick step by step on making my forend shell holder.

Sorry for the bad pictures.

1. I started with a Safariland Belt Loop 2 Shell holder from Brownells ($9.99)

2. Trimed off the belt loop part so I was left with just the Shell Holder part

3. Found a steel bracket that I bent in a 90 degree angle to act as my mount
hg04.jpg

4. Drilled two holes thru the bottom of the shell holder corresponding to the holes in my mount.
hg05.jpg

5. Bolted the Shell holder to the mount.
hg06.jpg

6. Trimmed the Bolts. When it's done the nut will actually be mounted inside the shell holder and the phillips screw head on the outside to keep it a little cleaner looking.
hg08.jpg

7. Since the forend was round and my mount was flat I needed to modify the mount a little so it would be a little more flush.
hg09.jpg

8. So I trimmed it down and drilled two new holes. These are the holes that will be used to bolt it to the forend.
hg11.jpg

9. Lined it up on the forend and found two really flat screws that could go on the inside and not interfere with the gas system as it moves.

10. I then trimmed the mount bolts with the dremel so the shell holder would be closer to the mount and foreend.

11. Here is the final product. All I have to do is paint the mount and it's done.

Ox: That's a great little writeup, but have you taken it out to the range with the shellholder mounted? I'm curious as to the effect of the recoil on the shells... they don't look like they're in there that far. Are those 2-3/4" shells, or larger?

The shells in the picture are 2 3/4 and not in the holder very far. There is a fine line between pushing them in far enough to stay firmly and having them loose enough for easy access.

I haven't had a chance to shoot it with this mod, as you can see it's down to bare metal and headed to Arma-coat for final paint.

My plan is when I get a chance to play around with it at the range is to make a couple bottom out bumpers in the bottom so I can easily push the shell in and it will stop at the perfect point of resistance to where I need it. But since all shells are created equal we'll see how that works.

We were just about to post our model of this consept next week but today is as good as any other
Will post pics later today

Arrghh! You guys are killing me. Nothing new comes out for the 1100 in years and then when I finally start a full tear down restoration upgrade project, you come out with some cool new space age recoil management system and new shotshell holder for the front.

I guess I'll just have to start on a second 1100 when this ones done.

All in jest BBB, thanks for the updates, I am glad to see you always announcing the new products.

I'm keen to see your new holder.

Ox: That sounds like a good plan, I didn't realize that's what you were doing... I thought you'd pushed them all the way in, and they were bottoming out on the nut. Good on ya for taking the time to iron out the details.

Jebus, get better, bbb!!!! Glad you are well enough to at least come on the forum to let us know. I hope I'm correct in assuming it means you aren't close to death or anything! :)

Anyway, more along the point of this thread, the 2 shot soft holder by S&J is perfect for this. This is the reason I bought mine and it works great. I actually didn't like the fact that it was nylon/velcro instead of kydex and hesitantly purchased one just because I didn't think I had other options but I am now digging it and am considering switching my 6 shot side saddle to one of these as well.
