Handgun building?

Is there a pistol out there that is kind of like an AR 15 in terms of building from scratch? The pistol version of grown up legos ;)

I don't care about building a super custom crazy expensive thing. Just normal quality, goes bang, but not blow up in my face. Kind of like getting one factory quality.

I know I can just buy a complete one, however the thrill is in getting the parts and building a thing with your own hands! I realize it will be a touch more expensive, but after a quick look, stuff like a glock slide costs the same as the entire pistol. I'm hoping there is a more price realistic (non gunsmithy) DIY way. I'm not brave enough to bubba something lol

Not legal unless you register them, but there's always homemade zip guns from pipe fittings and such. Definitely diy and cheap though. Also proof that gun control will never work.

How about 3d printing? Creality machines seem more than capable of printing Glock lowers.

Print with a SN and get verified and you're GTG?

Building a 1911 from scratch is possible but the one thing that would most likely give you issues would be the slide. You can buy after.market slides but they are usually built with extra material and you have to lap or machine them to fit well. Then there is the barrel link which needs to be hand fit. There is way more but this is just off the top of my head. There would most likely be way more hand fitting in a 1911 than an ar15 which has a milspec. Guess it would depend on how tight a gun you want to have in the end. I would think a Glock would be better for just putting parts on.

All my opinion

You can build 1911s, Glocks, Ruger MK pistols and P320s. I’m not aware of any other pistols where you can purchase the various parts from suppliers other than the manufacturer, or second hand from previously complete firearms.

Thanks everyone! Totally not into zip guns. Wasn't sure, but after a quick google search nope. Pistol building seems way harder than it is worth unless you want a competition gun.

I think I'll just wait and see what happens with ARs, and build one of those. Don't want to get it half built and have to give it away.
