Handgun Hunting cartridges: where does 45 AutoRim slot in?

One of the guys at my range 20-some yrs ago, hit a goat about 300 yds away.
.45 cal entry wound, no exit hole. Of course, he wasn't aiming at the goat.

We had an impromptu club dinner party, enjoying four different goat dishes/recipes.

No, a 45 Colt in a strong revolver will do pretty much anything the 44 Mag will, and I don't see many complaints about that. The ACP/AR are substantially weaker rounds however. I'm not saying they won't kill a deer size animal (if they'll kill a man, they'll kill a deer). They just limit the range at which they will do the job from a handgun. - dan

I've killed a deer every year (knock on wood) with a bow for the last five years... If I can do it with a bow I could do it with .

Arrows and bullets are two completely different things. Would you shoot a deer with a .45 blunt glued on your arrow? That is basically what you are advocating.

Will a deer die from a hole in both lungs? Most likely, but there is a chance it wouldn't, and there is a high likelyhood you would be tracking that deer for miles.

To answer the OP's question about where does the .45 Auto Rim fit in as a handgun hunting cartridge: it doesn't.

...Seems to be a ton of yanks deer hunting with 45ACP right now....

Makes me think people with greater liberty may have greater knowledge.

Really???? Show me where. If it IS happening I'd imagine it's a case of opportunity versus deliberation. I happen to know a dude who has shot a cow moose with a .45 ACP - doesn't mean it's advisable...
