Has the overall retail price of handguns come down over the last few years? Was considering selling my P226ST and needed somewhere to start concerning price.
 
Depends .... some have the balls to ask more than retail for an "as new''/"low round count" gun.
Try selling a car for more than market price after driving it to church on Sundays for a month .....

I've noticed over the years that if pistols are well cared for, they seem to hold decent value and don't depreciate as much as other things do. Some more than others I'm sure, but I'm speaking in very general terms.
 
They are worth what someone is willing to pay. I've always listed on the EE at what I considered to be fair prices. Some go in minutes or hours, some take days or weeks (with occasional price drops). I've made offers that didn't get answered or flatly refused. Other offers quickly accepted or counter offered. Dealing this way, I believe always has the item sold at market value. A gun that is bumped to the top many times at the same price is obviously over priced. List yours at the high end of your expectations and adjust according to the response, or lack of response to your ad.
 
I see a trend from a few people that think because it is a little harder to get guns right now that they can get whatever they ask. It doesn't work.

If you have a Beretta, price it at 800 dollars, write up a neat little narrative about how the gun is famous or has a history. But don't let them know that Gagnon sells the same gun for 699.
 
Places like cabelas rarely have items in high demand in stock. waste of time.
Prices seem to be on a reasonably steady climb upward.
Even though I've been keeping an eye out for some items on EE most of what I've been looking for is overpriced. I'd prefer to patiently wait for new stock to hit dealers instead of paying 10-20% above retail for a used, not particularly rare pistol.
 
I think that's what I was referring to. Back in around 07-08 when I bought my Sig, a Beretta 92 was around $930, now just under $700. My calculations would say pistols are getting cheaper! ??
 
Many are. Glocks dipped down to 600 bucks at one point but rebounded up into the 7-750 range. When I started shooting in 2005, a Glock 17 was over 1,000 dollars.
How much you thinking of selling your P226 ST for and what caliber is it?
 
That's fast! I owned an STI stainless edge with the light grey grips that went quick as well. Just demand I guess. I bought my Sig at P&D. Looking at their prices and even Cabela's has low or lower than when I made my purchase. Not sure what the deal is.
