Handgun Scope on Rifle

I want to put a VX-III 2.5-8x32mm Handgun Scope on my Ruger Compact 308 rifle. Why? Well, I can't find a smaller silver scope on the market!

Will it work?

The eye relief will be all wrong....the pistol scopes are designed(eye relief) to be used at arms length and probably won't be satisfactory at half that distance(Scout rifle concept). I'd want to try it at the store, with my eye the same distance away as on your scout rifle, I don't believe it will work.IMHO
 
you haven't looked very hard if you're stuck at 32 mm objective- riflescopes used to go down as low as a 20-22 obj( bushnell) but in a 308 , the minimum i'd want is a good 4x or a 3-9x32 or just a set of peep irons- the really short scopes are best suited to things like 44/357 carbines and the like- under 18 inches of barrel-like previously stated, your eye relief length using a pistol scope is all wrong- they're two completely different birds
