I just started going through the process of purchasing a handgun (my first since getting my RPAL) from my friend. He initiated the transfer with the rcmp, and I quickly phoned to complete the transfer. The woman I spoke to said the CFO would then need to authorize the transfer, and it would take 5-10 days, at which point I could get the temp ATT so i could bring it home.

Does this sound right? I hear about people getting their temp ATT in 20 minutes.

I should point out I am in Ontario.

Occurs quickly in Manitoba, usually 10-15 minutes, but then if it is your first handgun, perhaps they want to look at everything a bit more carefully.
When purchasing a restricted firearm, I E-mail my request and the ATT is E-mailed back to me. I often wonder why the variances in wait time between Provinces when the same law and provisions should be applied equally across Canada. Something not quite right here .....

Hey man. It's inconsistent. Your ATT could take from 1 day to 2 months. It all depends on how fast they do your paperwork, who's doing it and etc. Sad but true.... you never have an exact time. Believe it or not but when I bought my ISSC M22 Hand gun I got my ATT (I live in Thunder Bay, ON) in 30 minutes. That was the fastest I've ever seen them work. I have a friend who's been waiting for his ATT for 2 or 3 months now so you never know. I don't know the difference between Provinces and if Ontario is faster or slower, but I strongly suggest not calling them over and over again checking on your ATT. From their perspective it looks bad and they get a little concerned as to why you're calling so much. "Why is this person acting so rushy to get his hand gun home if he doesn't have a range membership" and etc. Anyways, what she is saying sound very correct... but your timing could work for or against you. I also had my ATT for my AR-15 come in 3 days so keep your spirits up.

RCMP has no right to judge why I Keep on calling. Well I paid for it so I want to take it home! If it is unrestricted well, i dont need range membership...

The RCMP has the right to do whatever they please. That's why they're the RCMP. They have more responsibility then the FBI and are stationed across the entire planet. Trust me... I know a few. They do keep tabs on people that call over and over again. This isn't made up. I thought we were talking about restricted firearms? I'm not sure if you were reading the initial post. We're talking about ATT's. If you're purchasing a non-restricted firearm and you have a valid PAL, there shouldn't be any waiting time or etc because there is NO ATT. You buy the firearm, the seller calls in the info/his or their info/your info and you walk out the door (if you're buying from a dealer/store).

You poor buggers.....

Move to PEI. I've done a few restricted transfers since moving here, and the longest one took 2 hours (I phoned it in just before lunch time). Buyign from a store is cake. Store phones it in, hands you the phone, att faxed to store about 30 seconds after you hang up. Granted, you might not be able to get a job here, but your transfers will be fast :)

Here in BC I've been waiting for over 2 weeks for my restricted firearm to be transferred. This is a purchase from a reputable shop and this is definitely not my first purchase - have made countless restricted and prohib purchases over the years. It's a good thing I am a patient man.

I bought two handguns here in alberta over the past couple months. One online from Frontier Firearms, had it at my door within 3 days of placing the order. So I'm assuming that transfer was 24 hours or less.

The other I bought from a local store and I was driving it home within 24 hours of paying for it.

When I buy restricted firearms from retailers in Ontario the transfer usually takes a day. The one time I bought a pistol from a friend the transfer took considerably longer, certainly at least ten days probably more like 18.

When you call in to transfer a restricted from one person to another or etc they tell you over the phone that it takes approximately 14 business days to transfer info over, and that's not including the ATT. Makes sense why you're still waiting. Doesn't make it enjoying though!

2 weeks in ontario at the moment (completed transfer mar 28, approved today, apr 11), alberta is under a day.
WTF is the ontario CFO doing that it is taking so long, extra checks? or are they just lazy

Called CFC today and now told 10-14 days, after originally being told only a few days.

SCREW YOU RCMP LYING PRICKS!
