Handi-Rifle barrels in Canada?

I've been pestering them to make one in .303 British along with a pre-fitted .410 barrel as a matched set. They seemed receptive not just pillow talk............Harold

You can bring them in from the US if you buy them privately. They can just put the barrel in the mail and send it. When you get it you can do some things yourself to fit it to your reciever. I've done it myself and never had a problem.

From their website:

" - We do not sell additional barrels outright. All barrels must be factory fitted.
- We do not sell barrel blanks or do custom calibers.
- In order to obtain an additional barrel(s), the stock, forend and frame (receiver) must be sent to us so they may be properly hand-fitted to the barrel, to be sure they are correctly head-spaced and proof-tested. "

As Manitobahunter says, if an owner of Handi-Rifle has a spare barrel he will sell you, he can. The manufacturer's refusal to sell a barrel and their insistance on fitting the accessory barrels themselves is a precaution against potential liability if someone else were to do a bad job, not because it is too difficult for a competent gunsmith - it isn't.

There is that statement of policy right there that they won't do what mbogo3 is asking for, but that doesn't mean they won't ever change their minds. I hope. I'd buy a .303British barrel for my Handi-Rifle if I could.

There would certainly be some forms to fill out, but there are U.S. made barrel blanks and barrels exported for sporting arms.

"...US won't allow the barrel to be exported..." Not without their export permit.
"...just put the barrel in the mail and send it..." Nope. Violates U.S. law.

I totally wanted to get on the No. 1 in .303 but didn't have the funds to jump on the wagon, I would totally jump on the chance to get an iron-sighted Handi in .303 though. I've never heard of them doing one-offs but I guess it couldn't hurt to ask?

If they would make a companion set in .303 + .410 the ejector would worK with either and they'd sell a hell of a pile of them to Canadian's.............I phoned them to plant a seed.......Harold

I have spent the last hour checking out Greybeards outdoors site for Handi rifle info (awesome site BTW) and I'm surprised that there isn't much aftermarket stuff for these rifles given their popularity.

I do see topics where people are re chambering their handi rifles.

I happen to know a thing or two about the law on both sides of the border as it pertains to the import/export of firearms parts particularly barrels. What you are proposing is both illegal and retarded.

Barrels require an international Import Certificate from the Canadian Government, Secondly, the barrel manufacturer must obtain an export permt from the US State Department to export specifically to YOU. The permits are about $1600 USD. There are no blanket permits that allow exportation to just anyone.

You have never had a problem because you have never been caught.

Getting caught on the US side illegally possessing, or exporting firearms parts carries a term of imprisonment of up to 25 years. Add to that, if caught, the lesser options include a total lifetime ban from entering OR FLYING OVER the US.

Secondly, you ought to read CGN rules:

The following topics will not be tolerated. Violation will result in immediate and permanent suspension. Some quasi legal/ grey/downright illegal examples that are specifically not tolerated are:
1) Shipping and driving items to Canada from the US that require US export permit.

"...have the proper paperwork..." H&R doesn't sell barrels separately. They insist they be installed in their factory. That may change now that Remington owns 'em(H&R was owned by Marlin who are now owned by Remington). Don't think I'd put any money on it though.
