Handi rifle clone with short barrel, possible?

I think they are awesome but very hard to find and probably expensive!

Considering the success of the Grizzlies, there is a huge market for non-restricted short firearms IMO.

If you guys could make some short break action rifles, they would sell like hot cakes.

Last time I checked, Mare's legs were made by Rossi, in revolver calibers and would cost like $1,000.

What I was proposing was a cheap (~$400), short barrel break action in rifle calibers.

Kind of like a Handi rifle, but with a 14" barrel.

Not the same market than Mare's legs.

With the original title and the part that said there would be a huge market for short barrelled NR firearms I just thought mares leg was an option. Also the price is $1500 which is pretty unaffordable for what it is.

Yeah I changed the title. And I'm not paying $1500 for a Mare's leg but I understand that some people will.

The fact remains that Handi clone and Mare's leg are 2 different rifles for 2 different markets.

Yes, but back to the original post. I would actually be interested in a cheap short 45-70 break action as well.

It's easy (or at least it was) to have a short barreled Contender. I thought I heard something about them changing the receiver on them but since they were designed to go from pistol to rifle, it's easy to mix and match parts to come up with cool shortys. Also completely legal as the barrels were manufactured at those lengths.

I considered getting one before, however the price is a little high IMO. My mind may be changing a little, looking at these ones though.

A second barrel .22lr combo option with the 12G Backpacker would make a sweeter package for a start and pressure shouldn't be a problem.

Also the backpacker could use a lighter synthetic stock with some storage on board.

And of course a higher front base under the bead..... maybe a post that is height adjustable.

Pistol caliber/12G sub caliber insert barrels that could extract with the 12 gauge extractor would be nice but more of a challenge for sure.

The original backpacker sold pretty fast if I remember correctly.

BTW, finding a used Handi rifle that sells for less than a new one in the EE is next to impossible. So the market must not be that slow.

just what i was thinking a double barrelled outlaw in rifle/ pistol chambering also.i might have to buy one and let my buddy a gunsmith play around and turn the barrels into a 357 mag or something.big heavy bull barrels topped with a nice slim line red dot scope that would be amazing.

I would think it would be fine. NEF/H&R and Rossi all offer rifles based on there shot gun actions. Short two barrel sets 12ga. and .30-30? would sell real well I would think.

If it was multiple swappable barrels, it would be hard to go wrong with .410, 20 or 12 gauge for one and something at least medium powered, in a rimmed cartridge, without much case taper. I choose 45-70, but .44 mag would be ok too.
