Ok, this might be a dumb question but I haven't been able to find an answer anywhere so I'm gonna ask it...

I went to my favorite store today to pick up my usual cheap case of Mirage #8 target shot only to find that they were completely out. I'm heading out for sporting clays tomorrow so I had to buy SOMETHING and the guy behind the counter said he'd bring out the next best thing that he had (which cost an extra $10/case).

I didn't check it out thoroughly while I was there but when I got home I noticed that they were 7.5 Handicap T2 shells. So what the heck is "handicap" and what does the T2 stand for?

I noticed that they have a higher grain than my "low recoil" shells, does that handicap mean that it's going to bust my arm when I shoot? :)

I'm very new to the shooting world so any info you can provide would be much appreciated.

The only Handicap that i am aware of is in Trap, where a shooter is moved back in 1 yd. increments based on wins and/or high scores. They can be moved back to the 27 yd. line(max.). Trap shooting becomes much harder back there and may require a heavier load, larger pellets, tighter choke. Handicap loads are meant for this and are usually max. dram. equiv.(3dr.), #7 1/2 shot, and speeds up to or over 1200fps., these heavier loads are not usually used for 16yd. targets due to heavier recoil.

Handicap target loads have beome popular for some of the longer shots in sporting clays or the shots where the target is harder and thicker than standard trap clay. Yep! You feel em a bit more!
