Handling loose ammunition in the field - Tuff QuickStrips, other options?

I'll share my preferred approach. This is going to be hard to describe, so bear with me.

Take a piece of stiff fabric (lighter than seatbelt, heavier than tarp, I used a waist strap from a pattern '82 rucksack) 2" wide by 16” long. Mark 7” in from one end, fold double.

Starting from the fold, sew joints across the strip sized so that the ammo of your choice is a snug fit in the area between the lines. This takes some experimenting.

At the >2" of single layer end, cut a button slot and finish it by sewing all around.

Now inside the breast pocket of your hunting coat, near the top, attach the button. Adjust sizing for your preferred mix of secure/removable.

Now the strip of "loose" cartridges hangs clear and flat, inside your pocket, without getting jumbled in with the other stuff in the pocket.

The pocket still provides secondary containment and makes the presence of the ammo not immediately apparent.

When you don't need to carry it, take it off the button and put it where it belongs.

That sounds pretty slick, and the button hanger is a nice touch.

I got the plastic ammo carrier and throw that in my buttpack and then I have one full box in my pack and I have extra on the stock of my 260 and my 303

I don't hunt with "loose" rounds.
If my rifle has a magazine, which most of my hunting rifles do, I always have 2 , both loaded with same ammunition.
I also carry 20 rounds in their plastic sleeves in a ziploc freezer bag in my pack no matter what rifle I chose to hunt with that day or trip.
I also have an ammunition wallet on my belt that holds another 8 to 10 rounds depending on if it's a .308 sized case or 7mm magnum rounds.

On my 7mm rem mag I have an uncle mikes buttstock sleeve that holds 10 rounds... which I fill with my preferred standard 160gr load (Partitions). In the ammunition wallet on my belt I will have that loaded with 175gr Accubonds in the event I need to reach out there beyond 300 on a moose.

while some might think carrying excess of 30 rounds of ammo on your person while hunting is excessive....... just wait until your first encounter with a pack of BC timber wolves inside 40 yards.

For 22 I fill an aspirin or old prescription bottle. Enough for hundreds of grouse

I do not carry a ton of centrefire rifle rounds while hunting. If I have some extras I just put them in my front shirt pocket, usually do this when going in and out of boats too.

Shotgun shells in a buttstock sleeve

For deer/ moose hunting I carry a 270 and a single shot break action 410 for grouse along the way. I have a molle belt pouch that was purchased from Sail (not sure if it's still available there), with a zipperless access hole at the top, I keep all my rounds in there. Since I'm not paying the ridiculously overpriced 80$ for an extra plastic mag I cut the plastic shell holder from the inside of a box of Remmington in half and put an extra 5 shells in the waist pouch with the loose 410 shells. With the zipperless entry if I need a shell for grouse or more bullets I just reach in and grab them, no noise and quick access.
10/10 would definitely recommend it.

I cut up one of those elastic shell holders and sewed it inside my jacket pockets.

Basically the same, I took one of those buttstock shell holders and cut away everything by the shell loops. No more clinking cartridges and I just throw it in the lid of my pack usually. Otherwise it's a full magazine in the gun and an extra round in the side pocket of my bino harness just in case.
