i have a 28 guage handy gun pistol serial number 700 range . these guns were made in the us up to 1934 when the batf put a 200 dollar tax on them .a lot of money in the depression.my search on the internet tells me that 5000 28 guage guns were made the rest being 410 .also a registry search reveals a dozen in canada. anyone else have one or has anything to share about this shotgun please let me and my fellow shotgunners know .thanks farmer 47

thanks p.e. islander for fixing the link. what barrel length was the 410 mine is 12 inches.trying to date the year of this gun anyone have any suggestions . its cylinder bore 28 guage stamped on top of the barrel.near the receiver. built on a small frame. would make a great little carry gun for bagging small game but according to mayor miller its only purpose is to create havoc in toronto. we are not allowed hunting rights with this little single shot as it is restricted. what a shame .

Farmer 47 who made these 28 gauge pistols?Where they made by one of the manufacturing companies or did another company purchase the shotguns and then modify them?

they were made by harrignton and richardson last produced 1934 when they were essentially banned because they did not meet the 18 inch minimum barrel length of new laws in the us .they fell into class 3 and required a 200 fee to be transferred to a new owner. other shotgun pistols in the us met the same fate .many of these guns were exported to canada as there was no market for them in the states.i believe they were made as a complete unit by h. and r .a well made little shotgun the frame is small correctly sized to the guage.

I believe the .410 I saw was a 12" as well.

I know I have a magazine article or two around here on the H&R, if I can find them I will post here, there might be some info on production dates.

Yeah, it's too bad we can't hunt with those shotgun pistols. There was a similar Brazilian made shotgun pistol for sale in Canada a few years ago, not nearly as classy as the H&R.

Thank-you for the information.Very interesting.

Here is mine, it was passed down through the family. I'm sure it will stay with us for another few generations. I have never shot it, just cleaned it up this week. I seen a little history of this gun somewhere online, but I can't find it anymore. It was writen by Eric Larson.

Here is a picture of my .410 :)
