Picked up some Federal buckshot today at Cdn. Tire.

Among them was this stuff. I thought 00 buck was 8 pellets.

What is the deal on 12 pellets in the same size shell?

Here are the specs from Federal's site. Apart from the velocity what is up with this?

8 Pellets would most likely be 000 not 00. I am not sure what you mean by the rest of your post. There is just a thinner wad in a 12 pellet 2 3\4 IIRC.

Yes sorry, knew 8 was 000 (mis-typed).

So just a wad difference? I was thinking it must be less buffer/filler that I've seen in Remington shells to improve the group/prevent deforming.

I'll see how they compare at the range. Having 3 extra pellets seems like a good thing.

You may be right about the filler thing, I am really not sure. I am out of town so I can't even dissect them to find out. 3 extra pellets could go both ways, pattern your shotgun and find out for certain.

000 buck has even bigger shot. My 3" 000 buck from Canadian Tire has 10 balls each just over 9mm which is nuts! Looks at the box it shows the size of the individual shot for 00, 000, etc. 000 is some powerfull stuff!

Every gun is different, but I will post my findings (Grizzly, 12") when I get a chance to pattern them.

The remington 000 buck that I got had eight .36cal balls in it. That just doesn't leave a lot of room for filler in a 2 3/4 shell. I have fired these at 25 and 50 yards into sand dunes to see the pattern and its pretty good. I guess the balls hold themselves in place pretty well. I would imagine some deformation on the balls, but still lethal at that range. I friggin love buckshot!!
