Had a big day at the range, repairing things and helping people shoot and tune their new rifles.
At the end of the day, I barely found time to try my latest surplus Czech VZ-52/57 with some good Czech corrosive.
I had a box full of free pistol competition 50 meter targets that a friend had given me.
The black measures exactly 7 3/4" and makes a perfect target for 100 meter iron sight shooting.
Sun was going down and there was an untouched target at 100 meters so I put five rounds in the mag and tried it, benched.
I took two fouling shots then let the remaining three rounds go, with a 6 o'clock hold and front post focusing.

I was rewarded with that nice triangle, measuring 3/4" at the longest and 5/8" at the shortest. You can see one of the two fouling shots at the 10 o'clock position. The first one is just out of the paper, in the same quarter.
Center is ripped because I didn't notice someone had tacked the target right there too...
Didn't have more time to try more shots, I had to attend a supper and I was already late.
Guess what rifle I'll be shooting next sunday...

Holy C@&P!
I wouldn't shoot any more if I post a group like that with a red rifle from the 50's ethier. PP you should shoot a vid next time you are at the range so when can see how a :ninja: operates!

I'll try to confirm this for sure!
Best proof is to do as you said Stevo: shoot two mags and round out the results.
I'll do it with very slow fire to avoid getting the barrel hot then do another one with the usual 1 shot every five second, just to see if it changes impact significantly as it heats up.
As for video recording, we have several bargain videocams for sale these days at the studio; I'll try to borrow one for the week-end and have a taping session.

This is the second VZ-52/57 I own that exhibits that grouping tendency. Usually, the VZ-52/57s go orange-sized at 100 meters and the Vz-858 do grapefruit-sized groups at the same distance. If fed good same lot Norinco Silver Box ammo, the 858s can half this. But one big problem is the length of the 5/30 mags that make a good, low bench position impossible.
I suspect a shorty mag equipped 858 would do very well at the bench.

Thinking about it, I'll also try to do a comparison between a VZ-52/57, early Chinese SKS, U.A.R. Rashid and a VZ-858, just for fun.
I have some mixed lots of surplus Czech ammo; I'll try to sort them in matching lots before attempting this.
More to come!
