Hi guys, I'm one of the others that still hesitate between 2 or 3 rifles. This rifle would be principally for shooting at range here we have a 600 yards range... but could in a execptionnal time be used for hunting but probably and surely not..

I would go for the classic .308 but I'm open to others like the 6mm Norma Br.

I reload so I don't bother about finding those particular cal. everywhere I'll relaod them..

I want to get a really accurate rifle that could be upgraded and a trigger set that is smooth and crisp.. I actually own a tikka and really love the trigger set at 2lbs it is smooth and crisp like you would broke a glass rod..

I don't want a rifle that I will have to put 2000$ on it to get it under 1 moA like some does with their Rem.. Otherwise I'll keep my tikka I'm near the 1/2 Moa with it.

I also want a repeater action...cause I want a repeater action unless someone tell me a good reason to choose a single shot action (other than the rigidity)...

I also want a rifle that is heavy with an heavy barrel maybe around 10 lbs maybe more.. the stock is also Important but not really cause I would be one of the upgrade that I will do with the time.. But I'll surely shooting a bit with the other stock.

Here they are:

1-Savage Model 12 Long Range Precisison Varminter (Repeater) cal. 6mm norma BR

2-Savage Model 12FVSS – with AccuTrigger™
cal. 308
3- CZ model 550 VARMINT – LAMINATED
cal. 308

4- And one of those savage non reapeating action
12F, 12F/TR and 12 palma

So as you can see... Not an easy choice on my mind...

please help me trough my choice... And the real fact is that I don't have a lot of choice near of my town.. I'll have to make a a trip to see some of of those... But will surely order it online..

If some of you would have more suggestions I'm open at it but no REm..

All thanks in advance for your advice

If you want to hunt with the rifle than I would cancel the idea of the LRPV unless you're not walking too far and will be hunting from a bi-pod. The rifle is heavy, and not balanced very well. I have tried shooting mine off hand and although possible, your accuracy will suffer. Plus, its not a nice rig to carry.

I would recommend the Model 12 VLP, as it is the most well rounded of all the Model 12's in my mind.

As for the CZ, I can't comment as I have never shot one.

I was in your shoes not to long ago. I went with the Savage 12F/TR in 308.
Very happy with my choice, because it shoots .204 " groups after finding out what recipe it liked. I put a NightForce 5.5-22X56 RPN1 reticle on it and you can see your .308" holes out to 500 yards and your hits on a painted target at 1000 yards.

The only problem might be finding one in stock somewhere.

Any one of your choices would fill the bill, but if you want to play with the BIG BOYS check out the HPS rifles

Consider the Remington 5R milspec .308. sub .5 moa out of the box. The only adjustment you'll need is to have the trigger weight lowered. About 5 minutes and $40 at a good gunsmith. Nothing else required.

11.25 twist, good for 168 and 175 grain ammo. Plus 5R radial rifling in a bull barrel 24" barrel.

Stainless steel with the dull bead blasted finish and an HS precision stock.

You can pick one up for 1K. That's tough to beat.

SIR has the FTR in stock last I saw. I fell in love with that action. The trigger is unbelievable. Makes the jewel trigger look like a rip off.

thanks about the 5R milspec Epoxy7 ... but they seem to be hard to find I think they are in limited editon...

I think the guns you are looking at are capable to do what you want, the 6mm would be a good choice. I really thing you should look and feel the Rem XCR Longrange Tacticale.http://www.remington.com/products/f...del_700/model_700_XCR_tactical_long_range.asp

gun weighs 8.5lbs and you can get trigger down to 2+lbs yourself or take it to smith for as few dollars, with reloads in .223 your into the .250 groups at a 100y and mine will shoot 1" at 300y if I don't drink coffee, before going to range, pretty hard to bet a factory gun out of the box.lots of customs don't do much better if any. When you work the action on a Rem 700 its pretty smooth.its available in .308 & 300win mag. another thing to consider. I see Savages for sale at range, and they do not get the resale value a Remington does.

I don't know why you discounted the Remington 700 out of hand? Who ever told you that you'd have to spend $2000.00 on one to get it sub-MOA doesn't know what they're talking about! I've got 6-7 Remington 700s in my collection, including original 700VS, 700 Sendero, 700LTR and BDLs. The heavy barrel rifles were ALL sub-MOA rifles out of the box, without touching them and using factory ammo. Even the BDL in 7mm Rem Mag will shoot under one MOA using 175gr Remington Core Lokt's all day long!

If you spend a little time, working on them, tweaking the trigger and bedding the wood stocked rifles, you'll always see an improvement in accuracy, without having to spend hundreds, let along thousands of dollars.

I recently found a new LTR barrel that the accuracy gods must've had a hand in making, because it outshoots every single custom barrel I own, even my Krieger, Pac-Nor, and Douglas barreled rifles. That bbl consistenly aggs in the .2's at 100M off a Harris Bi-Pod using factory ammo. My own hand loads and it is a one hole rifle. It is so good, it deserves better glass than the Leupold MK 4 3-9X40 PR topping it now - definitely an oversight and something that I'm going to rectify in the New Year.

Anyhow, take another look at the 700s, you can't go wrong with a 700P and there are tons of aftermarket goodies available for them. The same can't be said for your other choices!

If you're looking for a really neat caliber choice, take a look at the 6.5-284. Great ballistics, good for short, medium and long ranges and works well as both a target cartridge and hunting round.

223 savage model 110

Just wondering if anyone has this particular caliber/model I have an option to buy one. How is the grouping on there riffle and have they had any trouble with the bolt. I don't want to spend a small fortune as the $ can be endless:canadaFlag:

My LRPV is shooting a 1/4 inch with whitebox, and 3/4 with handloads. Go figure. But I am happy with it from the bench and from the bipod but definetly not a walking rifle.
