I am going to start playing with this cartridge in the near future and am looking for some help finding a load with 500 gr cast lead bullets and IMR 4759, I assume its not far off the 45/70 loads but we don;t assume in this game.

Any help would be appreciated.

Also anyone suggest a manual that shows load data for the old boys 45/70 45/90 45/120 and the 50 sharps??
The new manuals show very limited casting loads.
Regards
Jason

Whats the gun your shooting it in Jason? Unfortunately a lot of the data is kept low much in the way a lot of 45/70 stuff is. They assume your going to be putting it into an orig or repro BP gun...The simple fact that they relly havent even started to bring other BP cals into the modern world like they did with the 45/70 as far as steel quality is concerned, makes it virtually impossible to keep up with the 45/70...Not to confuse the issue but when your shooting smokeless in BP guns, the 45/60 I'm holding in the avatar can equal my 45/90 mod 86 in FPS with every load, and even my 45/120 sharps, because you cant utilize the big case...

Blindside it will be a 1885 high wall Uberti Replica.
I love the way the 4759 shot in the 45/70 light loads an accurate to the inch in the 45/70. But the .3 inch increase in the 45/90 will leave alot more room.
Want to shoot lead casts 500 grainers. Med/hard casts.

Lymans Reloading edition 46 is a good one for the oldys.
K Waters Pet Loads is also a must for any reloader into older stuff!

You can also watch e-bay for some old reloading manual but you have to watch because some of the powders have changed a little! Course that's why we always start low & work up right:)
