Harrell on M-1 Carbine

Nice video........thanks for posting. I've always loved these little rifles.

After reading Shots Fired in Anger (be sure to get the extended version of the book, which includes that author's time with Merrill's Marauders), I checked & double-checked the velocities on issued M-1 Carbine ammunition: those bullets were moving fast! ... :yingyang:

I truly wonder how much of the "M-1 Carbine ammo just bounced-off of Chinese winter clothing in the Korean War" was really that ammo passing through that winter clothing...

I do know that Carbine ammo loaded 200 fps slower than the military ball issue stuff and using a soft point expanding bullet will "thru & thru" a whitetails hair, hide, ribs, guts at 100 yards every time. I think the guys that ridiculed the carbine round as inadequate were using it at beyond it's intended range...of course a Garand round would be more effective at over 300 yards but out to that I wouldn't want to be hit with one wearing anything other than modern tack vest's.

Again from Shots Fired In Anger, the .30-Carbine catridge was supposed to be a good penetrator of Japanese steel helmets... :yingyang:
