Harrington and Richardson 300 ultra

I'm looking for opinions on the rifle and or H&R in general. Maybe its me but I have never come across any big fans of these 300 series rifles. They have the FN Mauser action, adjustable triggers, hand checkered stocks and a good choice of barrel lengths and calibres. They don't sound all that different then a Husky.
 
I had a half dozen of them in .30-06, several years ago - bought them as barreled actions, stocked them and resold them. They did NOT have FN actions, but Zastavas (as in Mk. X). Similar, but NOT FN.

They shot extremely well; every one of them.

Interesting. Gun Digest and H&R ads from the 60's and 70's state that they came with FN Mauser actions. I guess anything is possible. Thanks for the info.
 
I've got an H&R in .243, very good fit and shoots well. I bought it used while living in BC about 25 years ago. Was told it had been refitted with a Sako action but haven't been interested in investigating. It feels good and shoots great, there fore fits my prime criteria.

I have seen two others advertized with Sako actions.
 
FWIW my '79 Gun Digest lists an H&R 300 in the catalogue at the back of the book and it states that a Sako action is used for both short and standard length actions. A buddy of mine had a 301 Ultra Carbine with the Mannlicher stock and, while it's been at least 30 years since I last saw it, I'd swear it was a Sako action. If my feeble memory serves me correct he bought it because the action matched a Sako Mannlicher carbine he also owned. Both were beauties.

Thanks for the info. I was looking at a 2006 edition and it only states FN Mauser. Clearly thats not the case.
