... A lever action bush gun in .500 S&W?

I'm thinking of what I should get for a nice walking around gun, and I think that .500 cartridge is just made for a lever gun... and since it has the striking energy of an out-of-control city bus.... It would probably do a nice job as an attitude adjuster for any bears that come around while I might be fishing.

I would have thought that somebody would be builing these by now!

Why not? Because you can't get the Americans to export brass or bullets, that's why. You know of somewhere else you can get 500 S&W brass and bullets (assuming you aren't going to cast) then go for it. Even if they were being made (assuming by a US company) you couldn't get one in Canada anyways.

Wild West Guns does make one, as in agilent_one's link above.
I agree that 45-70 is boring, everybody and his dog does have one. The reason not many companies make a 500 S&W lever gun is that the only current commercial made lever gun action strong enough to handle the pressure is the Browning BLR. 500 S&W brass or bullets are not covered by the same ban on export that 50 BMG components are since the ban is on .510 dia (BMG) and not .500 (S&W) and they are not hard to get in Canada if you look around, but you will be paying a bit for them. It is not impossible to legally export/import components from the USA it just takes a bit of paperwork and time, I was in on an order a friend of mine did a couple of months ago with no problems at all once the permits were approved.

Yeah, I've seen dies, components and casting supplies all over, now I just need a rifle that costs less than $2K USD!! Not even the marlin guide rifles and winchester big bores can hack it? Wow, I'm even more impressed by this thing every day!

Remember, pressuredoesn't neccesarily mean power.;)

Maybe not, but a factory handgun cartridge that can generate almost 2600 ft/lbs of energy out of an 8 3/8 barrel and punch a .500 hole would be impressive out of a carbine length barrel.

If you MUST have a .500 S&W rifle consider trying H&R/NEF's Handirifle first.
Cheap, effective and features a 22" barrel.
Mind you, 500 S&W in long barrels hasn't really seen a huge velocity leap.
When people begin to try moderately burning rifle powders instead of pistol powders to make use of the extra length it could well see a good leap in MV.
Have a look at this post on GrayBeardOutdoors.com for an indication:

It would be interesting to hook thatpupy up to a strain gauge!

Many of the break action brands of rifle have issues with the himg pin, the Thompson Encore being one, which I would think is a much stronger action the the H&R, but I may be wrong....
