has anyone actually shot big game with buckshot?

Shot a buck 25 yards running an he rolled like a jack rabbit with OO buck, stone dead when he stopped rolling and many more deer. Shot a few bears that were wounded by the big magnums tight in thick bush with OO buck. I am not that great of a shot when it is thick bush and you have to shot fast, I like a big pattern not a single slug.

Why not just use the Brennkes in the first place, and when you hit that bear inthe face at close range, it will be dead, instead of having to follow up wiht anothe rshot?;)

Gatehouse...Perhaps you are right..I havent tried it yet. I was outside Calgary in the mountains at an Elk camp, and asked the wranglers what they use for nusiance bears, both blacks and grizzly. they said use #4 buck to blind the bear, then follow up with "punkin balls". Their next choice was an open sighted Sako 375 HH. I figure they should know as they do it for a living, and it made sense. They did mention however, to let the bear come in close, and try not to fill ones pants at the charge!!!

Tried it once, did the job effectively, but I wasn't impressed in the least.
Poor penetration, and plain luck seem to go hand in hand with this stuff. It works, but I won't be running to use it again, unless some legislator forces it upon me.

I shot a bull moose in the head with OO buck @ 15yards. Dropped him like a bad habit. No kicking or "crying" just dead. I had patterned my gun and it would put the 12 pellets in a 10" pie plate at 25 yards. In thick bush I think buckshot is better then slugs and at close range it has a lot of "umphh"
