Hey has anyone out there bought the JW25a that looks like a Mauser from Marstar or Lever arms? Can you let me know if it is a decent .22. I am not overly concerned as its a $200 gun but I want to know what people think if its a decent Norc or one to stay away from. I couldnt find any reviews on the net.

Thanks

I have one and like it quite a bit. It shoots pretty well for plinking but it doesn't strike me as super accurate. I was getting about 2" groups with 36grn federal hollow point bulk pack stuff at 50 yards off a sandbag. I'm sure you could get better groups with better ammo, a proper rest, and better shooting technique. The iron sights are also kinda tricky to get accurate shots with but scoping aparantly requires raiser blocks to get enough clearance for the bolt handle.

The finish on the rifle is not the same as on Marstar's website, it's actually a lovely coat of cheap brown paint but the wood underneath has a nice enough grain in a nice light color. I haven't had any problems with it, other than the fact it's kinda picky about ammo (doesn't really like hollowpoints). That and the instruction manual forgets to tell you to decock the bolt before you try to strip it (twist the bolt handle).

Overall it's a nice gun. The action is pretty smooth, especially for what it is, it has the milsurp look, accurate enough, and pretty fun. It also takes a Mauser 98K bayonet which makes it look funky. Do a search (lol, good luck) on here, there's been at least one other thread on this though it was a while back.

I just got one a few weeks ago. Only been out once - 25 yards at an indoor range. It was not well lit - tough with open sights.
Accuracy seemed pretty good but not great. PMC Scoremaster seemed to do the best - around half inch groups.
Looking forward to shooting under better conditions.
Very smooth action. Machining is a bit rough. I took a small file to several edges of the action to take the sharp edge off. I was afraid I was going to skin my knuckles on them.
I'm happy with it, very cool looking.

But, that said, I've got several real .22 trainers that I paid less for. My Israeli Mauser is a hoot to shoot. Enfields are even cooler.

I've got the JW-27, not the same rifle but as far as I know they both have similar internals (if you compare pics of the two side-by-side you'll see what I mean, especially the bolt & reciever assembly). I've found the same thing as happydude, mine doesn't like hollowpoint ammo and does best w/jacketed round-nose high velocity (1" groups w/CCI ammo offhand, around 3" groups w/Winchester SuperX hollowpoints). I find the workmanship extremely rough, and the stock and forearm look like they came from the dollar store until you strip the 1/4" coat of drippy lacquer and sewage-brown stain off. The bolt handle also wiggles, and for the first 500 rounds it felt like there was sand in the action. Overall, it's a shooter, I'm pretty happy with it. I can beat it up a bit, not clean it for 1000 rounds or so and it just keeps running, it's great. If you do get one, get about 3 or 4 extra mags for it, the 5-round mags are a pain to load and the fun is over way too soon. Good luck!

Mine shoots very well with T22 ammunition. It does not like any other ammo.
Fit and finish could be just a wee bit better but I'm satisfied with mine.

I have one, I think it's a great gun. Front sight needed adjustment (had to push it over quite far to the left) but it can be moved without special tools.

The rear sight elevation seems spot on.

I have only used the iron sights on it and have zero complaints, I'm very pleased with it.

If you want to install optics you'll need something that will let the bolt handle clear. It sticks up 90 degrees and would hit any typical scope.

I bought mine in person so I looked it over to check the action, etc first. It was nice so I bought it and have no regrets.
