Has anyone else worn out Glock mags?

My G34 stopped going to slide lock fairly consistently. I took everything apart and cleaned it, no go. Then I stripped the mags and cleaned them and it improved but didn't go away and seemed pretty random on what mag it would do it on (they are numbered). The same thing happened when I tried them in my G19 as well. I ordered Wolf +10% springs for them and installed them last night. I haven't shot it yet but the difference is night and day with the pressure on the follower.

Has anyone else worn out the 10rnd Glock mags? I didn't think it was possible and couldn't find any info on Glocks failing to go to slide lock so I figure it can't be to common.

If the issue is occurring with several magazines, then the issue isn't the mags. I have a strong suspicion you're riding the slide lock lever on occasion. I have the original magazines my Glock came with 7 years and 30,000+ rounds ago and they both still work flawlessly. If the corner of the follower that activates the slide lock isn't damaged then its probably you riding the lever. Try shooting one handed with both hands(left then right), I bet the issue goes away.

+1 on the slide lock... I'm guilty of this as well especially with the goofy extended slide release which you have (and I had).
Order a regular slide release and try that, it made a significant difference with my Glock :)

Do you leave your mags loaded for weeks or months at a time?
I rotate my loaded mags, but even so I have had on 17 rd pinned to 10 G17 mag spring go soft on me.

Or maybe the spring got hung up ion the rivet?

In any case, I number all my mags and am now keeping a special eye on this one.

I thought maybe riding the release was the problem but I've never had it happen once in 1000's of rounds until this summer. Maybe I changed my grip subconsciously. At first I thought it was the crappy Wolf reloads but factory was the same. When the stripping and cleaning fixed the problem 98% I figured it must be them. I'll report back when I make it to the range.

When you take the base plates off your Glock mags does the spring protrude very far, mine just cleared the mag.

Very rarely do I leave rounds in a mag when in storage. I did load them up last night to break in the Wolf springs.

They're springs! They're springs! Understand the things!

Leaving mag springs compressed will not wear them out. Cycling mag springs will wear them out. If you're rotating your loaded magazines, or emptying the mag needlessly before storage, you're actually wearing them out FASTER than if you didn't

Loading them up and leaving them will, likewise, do (next to) NOTHING to break them in.

On my factory 10-round'ers, it protrudes about an inch. I don't shoot with those mags, so that's what they're like unused.

Rereading your original post, it might have been the mag springs if it happened in your G19, too. How many rounds (approx.) do you guess have gone through each magazine?

I've got 5 mags, 3 were original 2 are newer but I don't know which is which since I only recently numbered them. The gun might have seen around 5,000 rounds if I had to guess, not close to what TDC has put through his.

I've had a glock magazine spring wear out after many years of use. The body of the magazine is fine and so was the follower. I did have to replace the magazine spring in order to guarantee the slide would lock to the rear when the pistol was empty. Considering how many thousands of rounds that magazine would have seen I thought the $5 Wolff replacement spring was cheap. Wearing out springs isn't a big deal.

I would strongly suggest replacing your recoil spring every 5-10 thoussand rounds. It will ensure reliability and protect your frame.

Vickers is one of the most expert experts on 1911's in the U.S. if not the world, he carry's a G19 9mm. Interesting tidbit of info. His advice on Mags should be taken seriously.

Your glock should not be giving you fits with all mags with such a low round count. Have no idea what is causing your troubles.
