I'd like to go on one. Montana, N Dacota, Alberta, Sasaquachawan?...

Interested in hearing from people that have gone on them and maybe a recommendation on where to go, what outfitter?.. Canada vs Us?

I know you Alberta guys shoot them from the kitchen window so no need to brag. Lol

Cheers

No prairie dogs that can be hunted in Canada but we do have a healthy population of ground squirrels or as they are known locally....gophers.

If you're talking Richardson's ground squirrel no need for a guide. Come out to southern AB or SK and go for a drive, you'll see them everywhere.

Prairie dogs are a different vermin than are gophers ( Richardson ground squirrel), and Alberta has both. Prairie dogs are much bigger and fewer than gophers, and can be found towards the Eastern slopes of mid Alberta. I hunt on private property towards Edson that has prairie dogs, but no gophers. For someone not knowing, a prairie dog looks like a 4X bigger gopher on steroids.

Most likely Columbian ground squirrels or groundhogs....shoot a prairie dog in Alberta and go directly to jail. Prairie dogs are a critter of the southern prairies and are all but extinct in Canada.

Jaydog's (CGNer) father goes on guided hunts in the Dakotas nearly every year I think. You might drop him an PM to check and get a recommendation.

I've shot them a couple of times in Wyoming, after mule deer and antelope hunts. It was fun for a few hours, but I wouldn't make a trip specifically for prairie dogs, it got old after a short while. To each their own I suppose. South Dakota has a very healthy population with lots of outfitters offering hunts.

Growing up in Alta and Sask, gophers were everywhere. Not sure I've ever seen a prairie dog, but I never knew there was such a thing as a "guided" gopher (prairie dog) hunt........really? What would one pay for such an experience?

I went to the rosebud In south dakota this year. massive waste of time and money shot maybe 10.guide was horrible. put us o. shot out towns and left us tbere for the day. ill stick to Saskatchewan.
