Last year a guy said he was looking for the longer butt tube for the C7.
He wouldn't believe me when I told him they used a normal tube, and added a spacer between the tube and butt plate.
He also wouldn't believe me when I told him the C7 could be fitted with a shorter stock, indicated by a large C with a small S inside.
The marking can be seen on the first picture, on the receiver end of the top stock.
My information came from a retired Canadian Forces armorer.
Here are a couple of old pictures of some stocks the guy had in his shop.
The dark stains on the stocks, they were stored in crates of Enfield stocks and came in contact with cosmoline.
The retired CF said a mild degreaser would clean them up.

I've worked on all of them. There was only ever one receiver extension.

The standard length butt stock has one spacer and that was removed for the short one.

There are a few articles on this in back issues of small arms review and it is covered quite well in The Black Rifle II.

CF wpns tech since 2002

2 stock sizes normal and short, as well as a spacer piece to convert a normal stock to a long

Buddy is wrong, you are correct

Where did he get that idea? The spacers were bolted onto the butt. As I recall, they were especially obtrusive for any average sized person attempting execute CQB drills. Lawls were definitely had.
