Has anyone played with the SIG 716 Patrol rifle? Accurate?

I bought a 716 patrol ODG recently. I love that gun. Keep in mind that it is a patrol rifle, not a sniper rifle. I has a thick (0,725” diameter) 16” free-floating barrel with a 1:10 twist. I have shot over 300 rounds with it so far. I am getting an average of 1,5 MOA from bench position with normal ammo and 1 MOAish with quality ammo. Of course I could get a picture of my best grouping and tell you that it is a 0,5 MOA rifle, but that would be bull####. I think a lot of people bull#### their accuracy… For me, a 1 MOAish rifle is perfect for a 16 incher. If I want accuracy, I shoot my bolt action sniper rifles.

The thing to consider is that the valve for the piston has 4 setting. There are some stupid people out there and this gun is more complex than other. It is not idiot proof. If you put your setting on “suppressor” and shoot without a can, you will get extraction failure. If you put your setting to “adverse”, the bolt will violently return and eventually you will get a bolt tilt. If you shoot “hot” reload the bolt will be violent and you may also get bolt tilt. For me, a 4 setting valve is something VERY interesting. It may be more problematic to somebody new to firearms. If you shoot normal ammo on a normal setting, everything should be fine. But this rifle is conceptualised to also be used with non-conventional elements: suppressors, subsonic ammo, rubber bullets, rifle grenades, etc. I will try subsonic ammo in the next months, just because I can…

The ergonomics of the rifle are exceptional. The magpul goodies are very good. The sling was the biggest surprise. It is an exceptional sling that can really help you stabilise your weapon. This rifle is really at its height when you fire from standing/sitting/kneeling while using a monopod. I am reaching stability that I never experienced before with other platforms in those shooting positions.

The only thing I would upgrade is the trigger. The trigger is OK, but not great. It is not in my priority list, but a “nice to have”.
