I was just going over the licence application form. Does anyone understand this? :

"J - FEES
If you are applying for a Possession and Acquisition licence
for the first time, the fees are based on the firearms you
currently possess and the firearms you intend to acquire and
possess.

(...)

Indicate the method of payment. Do not send cash. Make
cheque or money order payable to Receiver General for
Canada."

So... if you're applying for the licence for the first time, the fees are based on the firearms you currently possess? Do they consider people as total morons or maybe are they trying to get the street gangs to register their illegally smuggled-in Glocks or something?

This must be the final stage of the Liberal envisioned gun control program - get criminals to register their hardware and charge them $ depending on how much they already own. Get guns off the street and fix the deficit all in one shot. The Liberal way!

:runaway:

Ummm..... Amnesty..... or maybe previous FAC or POL holders:)

If you read the terminology closely, it is 100% correct. It says if you are applying for a "Posession" & "Aquisition" license. There are thousands of people out there that presently only hold a POL (Posession Only License) If you wish to purchase additional firearms other than those that you owned when the registry came into effect then you need to "Upgrade" to a PAL. Theoretically you may have had 2 POL's already but this is the first time that you are aplying for a "Posession & Acquisition" License.....

Hmm... ok then. But I think that they should specify and differentiate the two groups - those who have a POL and those applying for the first time. Or some noob might think that the licence is optional if you want guns... and that licensing is just another GST tax or something.

When I first read this I was convinced that had I owned guns without a licence prior to applying, all that would happen to me is that I'd pay a higher PAL fee... Almost as if the government is going soft, hahaha :D

There are also people out there who currently have unregistered guns, which they owned prior to the current mess that is our firearms licensing system, who had not heard or chose to ignore the law. If these people decide they want to try and meet the current legal standard, the general practice of the CFC is to try and accommodate these people, as they would rather license them than prosecute them, as it is way cheaper, especially when they have only committed a paper crime.

These people would also be applying for a first license, with firearms they already possess.

The form was also developed over 10 years ago, with only minor updates since then. At that time, everyone was applying for first licenses, and already possessing firearms.
