Has anyone tried reflex sights?

I recently bought a Crosman 760P for my daughter's 7th birthday and put a cheapo reflex sight on it. After plinking a few rounds while sighting it in, I realised it was so much easier to acquire the target and put the bead on than with a regular red dot scope. Since then, I've been looking at ordering http://www.opticsplanet.com/mueller-optical-1x22x-33mm-quick-shot-waterproof-red-dot-scope.html to put on my .30-06.

Just wondering if anyone has tried a reflex sight for hunting, and if so, how well/poorly did it work?

go to LeBarons and buy the Browning one for $55 or so, and try it out. I bought one to use on my 22LR and yeah I love the speed of it! thinking of putting one on the 12ga but i'm a range-only guy...

Have you tried it with pistols ? Do you bench rest with it ?

never bothered to try it with a pistol, to be honest. none of my pistols are set up for a reflex sight.

thus far, I've only used the sight on the rifle standing, so no benching. they're amazing for speed, but since there's no magnification and the dot that's projected is 3MOA to 5MOA, they're probably not ideal for accuracy beyond 100 yards. basically, at 100yd, the tiny red dot is covering a CD (the music type).

there is no info on the size of the dot. The biggest i would go is 2 MOA but thats just me. I was looking @ vortex red dot for 200 bux @ wholesale sports. check it out. Nutnfancy does a review of it on youtube. have a peek.

Over the years I have seen a lot of pictures and vids of Hunters in Europe using these sort of sights just fine.

Methinks if one has taken the the time at the range to practice the hitting the kill zone on the side of a deer which is often about the size of a dinner plate anyway then 100 yards with a 30/06 should be no problem... Perhaps even out to 200 yards.

I had good luck with a $60 reflex sight this past deer season. I mounted it on my SKS.
Shot a little buck at about 60 yards. Very fast and easy to see in the bush.. I shoot this rifle quite often
and recoil has not bothered it.
Cheers

After plinking with the Crosman on a bright sunny day, I've decided to stick with the scope style. The bright sun kills the dot, and I just end up guessing. Thanks for the help anyway!

Sight hoods and darker projection surface solves this... Also not shooting into the sun helps. ;)

I've got a Burris SpeedBead and it works very well in bright light. It adjusts automatically to lower light values and the small dot is not hard to find in full sun. I've only used it at the range on paper mounted to a Mav88 and a 10/22, but in my opinion, it works better than cheaper reflex sights and red dot scopes. Compared to my Lucid HD7, I prefer the Burris. YMMV.
