Hello folks... I have some IMR 4166 on the way... I'm wondering if anyone has tried it yet and your thoughts on it's use and performance... I will be trying it in my .308's and a Bob...

Tried a pound when varget was scarce a few years ago,39.5 in a .303 w/180 speer was giving me 1.25" groups. Might try whats left in one of .308's now that Im stuck at home.

like it in my 204 r.
Copper fouling eraser is nice with high volume shooting.
Notice it ramps up pressure quickly when you get to the top of the ladder.
Little chunky but meter okay

stay with old school, these new fangled powders are expensive and an absolute rip off, no better than the tried and true just more money, they have run out of ideas, marketing bs.

Performance comes at a price a agree...

Accuracy is priceless,, in my mind.. but there is no fun like trying, always once.. the proof is in the pudding

Grab a spoon full bibatoad..... you might like it, ,,?

Tried 4166 in 7mm-08 with 140gr bullets and .303 with 180gr bullets.

Held it's own in 7mm-08 ladder tests against Varget, N540, Re15, IMR 4064. Accuracy was right there, but it got scarce, and price went up from what was originally a steal of a deal at my LGS. Went a different direction for those reasons however it was very clean and accuracy was really good.

303 br same thing. Surprised actually how it did against the same powders, but anything I tried didn't jump off the paper so to speak in terms of satisfactory results. Got a tip from a couple of CGN'ers here to try BL-C(2) and so far it's been dynamite during testing. Now going that route. Readily available and reasonable price.

If I came across a good deal, I wouldn't hesitate to buy 4166 for when powders become scarce. That being said, I agree, north of $50 a pound, I stay away right now.

FWIW

Ronr
