Has Excell Bullets gone tits up?

I found his .45ACP seem to work best when fired from a slingshot.

I guess people either have different luck or reloading habits..
I've been shooting Excel 230gr RN .45's exclusively for several years...
No complaints. Once in a while I find a .40 bullet mixed in with the .45's, but that's it.
I'd continue buying them if they were avail.

It's not so much about luck or habits; it's about size and speed (isn't everything?). If the bullet is too small for the bore it's going to tumble, plated or otherwise, and I was getting some 9mm bullets as low as .350" when I need .356." In .40 they were fine. Also, in most guns with button rifled barrels Excel bullets wouldn't reliably hold together much past 1000 fps. The sharper rifling would generally score the plating material and it would try to separate once it exited the bore. The faster the load, the worse it gets, but 230 gr. 45's aren't going that fast so you would mostly get away with it.

Lead or plated?

I bought 5k plated in .40 cal. Worst pieces of crap I have ever seen. Jelly Bellies are more uniform.

Lead....the .45 colt were fine for cowboy action accuracy, and 45 acp were also quite accurate.....I have used the .40 plated, and they were good enough for plinking fun.....Just me I quess.....

FWIW,

Last time I spoke to Marty (early June) he was in the process of packing most of his Etobicoke machines etc. and moving it out to Hamilton. He told me they would still be doing some things out of Etobicoke but the majority would be in Hamilton. I don't know if he took a vacation since then but it didn't sound to me like he had plans of closing up shop.

TvD

my understanding is that he sold to some guy in Hamilton and that this new owner has purchased new equipment to make good quality bullets....I don't know who or where but I am sure he or she will surface soon..

I heard that aswell from a guy at Silverdale. Apparently there is a new bullet company comming to the GTA.

Excel was not a favorite of mine, I always found the boxes looked as if they had been dropped off a moving truck. The lead bullets shot OK in my 9mm Browning even though some were not round!

I much prefer Frontier. BDX makes a good product also but I find it easier dealing with Marstar.

BDX has been using Speer plated recently,...VERY good product.
Works excellent out of my Tanfoglio in 9mm.

True...

I did manage to win 1st place in a Pistol match at the last LE Games using Excel .45's Shot 100% :)

They may not be the best, but.... they'll do :D
