Has Savage switch to the centre-feed system on their 10/12 series 223/204 rifles yet?

Anyone know if Savage has switched to the center-feed system on their 10/12 series .223's yet? From what I have read their .308's have this system, but not the smaller 22 caliber 10/12 series.

Just checking up, as I asked about 5 months ago or so and they had not at that point.

Can't remember who it was, but someone had mentioned that they didn't think Savage would ever come out with the center-feed system for the smaller calibers due to the short cartridge length or something along those lines. Any opinions on this? I have been holding off on buying one for a while.... and am starting to get the itch....

For those of you who have 10 or 12 series Savages chambered in .223 or .204 have you ever had any feeding problems of any sort?

Thanks!

My model 12BVSS in .223 is centerfeed with no floorplate. Never had feeding problems but sometimes its like I have a handful of thumbs and find it a little frustrating to load.

The new gen Savage/Stevens will be center feed both fixed and detachable mag.

I have been using the center feed det mag and love it. The mags are really well built and if the lips are right (ah the joys of mass production), they feed extremely smoothly.

I have worked on some new gen center feed blind mag rifles and these fed great too. Doing bedding work and bolt timing for members.

Jerry.... so only some of the Savages will have the detachable magazine? I see on the Savage website it says that the Model 12 Low Profile Varminter, 12 BTCSS, 12 LRPV, and 10 FCP all have the detachable box magazine. The rest are listed as having internal box magazines. Do you know if they plan on releasing the standard 12FV, and 10FP with the DM, or will they keep the internal box magazines in these rifles?

Does anyone know what Canadian retailers are definitely stocking the center-feed 12FV, or 12BVSS in .223rem? What about Wholesale Sports? I dare not ask the people on the phone at WSS as they never seem to know anything, and I would be right pissed if I ordered one based on their word and received the staggered feed system.

Thanks

Yes, some will have fixed and others will have det mags. Best way is to look at the Savage site. They do try and keep it current.

I really doubt there is old stock 223's on the shelf anymore. They would have been priced way too nice when our dollar was strong BUT....you just never know.

Good luck with your search...

I just bought myself a 12FV from p & d enterprises in edmonton chambered in 223 and it came with a center feed magazine. It feeds fine, but half the time it won't extract properly. I love the gun though!

I am very sure all the 12FV's at WSS will be centerfeeds. All the ones I have seen there have been, and they all have the later FV stock with the stiffer, wider fore stock, and the bloofy soft recoil pad. (Savage calls it the P.A.D. Personal Anti-Recoil Device) It's a nice stock actually, a big improvment over the earlier, flimsier fore stocked FV.

I have yet to see any 12FV with that new stock that wasn't a centerfeed.

Russell's had a older 12 FV in .308 that was a staggerfeed on sale for 469.00 2 weeks ago. It had the older stock. It had been in thier inventory since late 2006. They had all thier .308 12FV's on sale for that price, and they all went quickly. All the ones I saw (except the one staggerfeed) were all later centerfeed rifles in the newer stocks.

I like the centerfeed design.....it works well. The only quibble I have about it is it's a bit awkward to load when it's cold out and I'm wearing gloves. It should be noted that for those the haven't seen one, the magazine still holds the cartridges in a staggered formation. They feed up into a centered set of lips, thats right on the bolt centerline. I have heard people call them 'single stack' or 'center stack' and this isn't really correct. The mag is staggered, the way it feeds is in the center.

Another major difference, the blind mag centerfeeds all have the magazine attached to the stock, the older staggerfeeds, the magazine attaches to the action.

New stock??! Now that I did not know. I will have to look into that to see what it's all about. If they have improved the stock on the 12FV and 10FP (have they improved both?), AS WELL as introducing the new center feed in .223rem then I am definitely getting one very soon. This is huge! lol I have been waiting forever to be able to finally buy one of these rifles!

Thanks guys!!
