Wife's little brother is graduating and his dad wants to buy him a 12 gauge duck gun.

Prices on used shotguns are nuts these days. Prices on new shotguns are even more nuts. I see the Escort Fieldhunter (or is it field hunter?) is still available around $300 with wood stock/forend. Looks OK, but no idea how they hold up, as I've never owned one.

Anyone on here have experience? My guess is he will shoot 3-4 boxes a year at ducks and that's it.

No experience with that model, but I think the best value in that price range is a Maverick 88. Cheap, reliable, parts, both aftermarket and repair, are available. Made in USA instead of Turkey, better resale ect.

I have a hatsan escort 12 ga 3.5 in semi
Nice gun shoots well. Parts are hard to find, accessories limited. I would say go mossberg.
Ps
In shotguns i have hatsan semi 12, winchester 12 semi and pump, remington pump, franchi superpose, baikal semi. They all shoot well.

I'd vote for the Hatsan, too. I've got an Optima pump (UK Escort from around the 90s), Hatsan 14" Marine Guard pump, Girsan MC312 semi, Daly 19" semi. No probs with any of them using various 2-3/4" and 3" loads including slugs. Never shot for ducks, so heavier loads no idea.
And for parts I found on Shotgunworld. com that the Escort uses most parts from HK-FABARMS FP6. Should be around for a while.
