My birthday was black Friday, and my Lovely wife got me the escort mp od tactical shotgun with 20" barrel, exactly the one I was drooling over. We already got a escort ws (Wife's bday gift) and we like the brand. Anyway its a Fixed Cylinder which is normal for tactical shotguns but considered not the best for hunting birds and such. WS is a chokes shotgun perfect for that but hey got this to so why not bring it along right.

Epps for 100$ can add a choke to a shotgun which sounds cool. But wonder how much meat they take off the barrel. The front is threaded externally for a flash hider (comes stock) so wondering if there is a choke that could screw on externally as well.

So hey has anyone added choke to a shorty, can they report how much material was taken off the barrel. Did the external threads have to go (barrel get cut back) to do this as barrel not exactly thick at the end. And has anyone found/used a external attaching choke system or know of one that would fit this barrels stock external threads ?

Pretty sure the threads have to go. Barrels to thin to leave them. See Casey at tacord for details. If you could get a choke adapter for a Saiga 12 it would screw on. It has the same M22x.75 threads. Otherwise, you'll have to do what I'm doing. Make your own screw on barrel extension that's tapped for chokes. I have the barrel piece that's already tapped for chokes (Remchoke), now I just need to get a buddy to make a piece to mate the barrel to the shotgun.

PS. If it won't cycle bird shot or target loads polish the outside of the mag tube. Apply a light coat of light lube. Gtg.

20 inch barrels are generally too short for huting shotguns. that extra 4 to 8 inches makes all the difference for shotguns.

Well mostly thinking deer hunting, ie slugs. It is Sometimes its better to go modified choke for slugs. again all depends on what kind of hunting.

But in the end the is meant to be a fun toy, but hey if I can improve the toy to be a little more useful, then sure why not :) to me its all about messing with the toy itself, move to modify and tweak things (you should have seen what I did to paintball guns back in the say and what I do to my motorcycles

ya had a feeling that would have to cut down to add internal choke which is something I do not want to do

Never had a issue with the WS my wife has and only used it at range for trap so far. So if I have tjhe issue you mentioned I will do just that.

Looked this up only adapter I can find is this

So looks like it would ass a few inches to the barrel as well, which for hunting even if just backup hunting shotgun, is a good thing. Are you aware of any other adapter ??. Also considering the Saiga is a AK variant and I believe even mentioned by name names on the prohib list, no one here would have this in stock in Canada. That said is there any legal reason why I could not buy one state side and brig it back here. I have friends state side who can even ship it to me is needed. the price is good.

weasel1, would love to see exactly what you are doing as it sounds interesting. What choke tubes you plan on using. the Saiga one is uses 1 1/2" winchokes but I can see making one to use the stock chokes for the WS I have already and are basically Trulock’s Beretta/Benelli style chokes (fuly interchangeable). But those are a little longer then 1 1/2" meaning you would end up with about a 3 to 4 inch barrel extension. So interested in what chokes you plan to use in your rig you describe.

Side note, any concerns the external threads are not strong enough for the chokes ???

I know what you mean, my old SV 650 barely has any orignal parts on it other than the frame.

cam shafts replaced ? I will take the old ones :p The dl650 I have I can swap in the sv650 cam shafts and then i am running the sv650 engine. Reports are more power, no lose in fuel efficiency. Tho might be slight loss in lower end torque BUT swap of the front sprocket would help that out and still give me more hp

I still need one part made, but once I get that, I'll post it up. I'm going with Remchokes.

While I was looking for inspiration I found this:

Poly choke also makes a choke for the Saiga.

Nice

also found this polychoke, a adjustable choke. that is interestign idea as hey no choke tubes to buy. Hmmm have to look up the reviews on that system

yes this sounds real interesting i too just got my hatsan mpa and i am very happy with the shotgun considering the price you can`t go wrong, but a choke adapter to screw on the outside of the barrel witch in turn you could screw a readily availiable choke sys. into would be awesome i will be waiting and watching for someone to source this or build this (hint for kings armory) and i will be ready to buy thanks guys

is there anyone in canada selling poly chokes they showed some on u-tube that fits the saiga 12 and they are the same tread on the hatsan mpa`s m22x.75 external thread that would be real nice and easy unless someone wanted to start making or turning out an adapter similar to the ones state side hint hint there are a lot of hatsan mpa`s out there
