Hey there. A couple months ago, I purchased my first firearm, a Hatsan Escort twelve-gauge pump-action shotgun. It is labeled "optima" for some reason, both box and receiver, but every "optima" I've seen has been a break-action.

Anyway, enough with that, my main point is...

Has anyone had any experience in modifications? I'm looking to add a heat shield, as the barrel gets QUITE hot during rapid-fire. I've looked on MarStar, but I'm not sure if "universal" means "universal" in my case.

Another piece of gear I'm looking for would be a side saddle, because frankly it's hard to tactical reload out of pockets, haha.

Any help is appreciated.

to each his own.... but if you are grabbing the barrel of your shotgun then you are doing something wrong. if you really want a heatshield for looks, then you may be able to modify one of the 'universal' ones like the TacStar to fit... but expect to do some dremeling.

also, this is one of the problems with buying a non-870 or 500 based pump... youre going to have a hard time finding accessories for it. for the shell holder, consider shell strippers/california strippers for your belt. theyre more effective, and will work with any of your shotguns.

You probably have not gotten any responses at all because to many have never even heard of these guns, and for next to near the same price you could have gotten a Mossberg 500 or 535 or Maverick 88.

I picked up a Hatsan at the local store and racked the slide and thought it was going to break in my hands, felt like the cheapest piece of foreign garbage I have ever felt, worse than the Norincos.

And to boot they want $300-400 for them haha.

Maybe next time some research put into your gun for your purpose might save you from another bad buy.

Actually to tell you the truth, I've put over 600+ shells through it so far, and I haven't even had any problems with it.

I've never owned a shotgun before, and it was a birthday gift, so my next WOULD probably be along the lines of an 870, but my local gun store was selling one for over $600, so it was a tad out of my range.

But I mean, it IS what it is, I've found a bit of play in the fore end, and it's a little light, but failures to eject don't happen very often/if at all.

I think I'm just going to get a universal shield from marstar, and hope it fits on an "odd" platform, haha.

Hatsan Shotguns are indeed made in Turkey.

A friend of mine bought the Optima MarineGuard and it's actually not a bad little shotgun. The finish and overall build quality is pretty impressive. I completely stripped it down and there really wasn't a damn thing I could complain about. The only issue I saw was that the receiver was made of two pieces, rather than milled from a solid piece of metal like the 870/500s.

I to, am confused why they are called Optima yet on the Hatsan website the entire line is called "Escort". Whatever...

I was looking at those as my first 12G purchase, but ended up going with an 870. I didn't plan on doing any crazy accessorizing, but I know that if I wanted to, might as go with the most popular platform in the world.

Glad you like the gun though!
