Hatsan MPA-TS Muzzle Threads

Hello everyone!

I've been dreaming up a project and would appreciate advice.

A semi automatic 12 gauge is a very versatile weapon but unfortunately the MPA-TS does not have any option to take internal chokes for tightening up shot patterns. I understand the use of a slug/buckshot gun and find that to be a greater priority, hence my purchase choice, but I think there is a way to obtain chokes in a way which does not interfere with that use whatsoever.

Screw-on chokes were very common back in the day apparently and would be a good use for the external threads on the MPA-TS used currently to mount the flashhider/doorbuster or aftermarket muzzle brakes.

Apparently, the threads of many Hatsans are M22X.75, although I hear there is a variation between SN#s, mine is a recently purchased one. If anyone knows the difference and can post images of threads to visually distinguish that would be immensely useful. :dancingbanana: Or maybe its just the magazine tube threads? The diameters are the same so maybe the two variations share the same different threading or are mixed.

If this is so the Hatsan could screw-on chokes or choke adapters intended for the Saiga 12 (M22x.75 threads), which for obvious reasons is mostly tactical and doesn't have internal threads we could cheaply and without gunsmithing use this firearm for birdhunting. There are many manufacturers and dealers of such things in the US and costing less than 100USD they can be exported with only registration of manufacturer with USG - at least one manufacturer that makes these things must be registered.

If this is impossible a polychoke II could also do the trick if the Saiga 12 one is indeed screw-on and not screw-in, or any external screw-on choke made for M22x.75 threads, just haven't found any others yet, unfortunately the SPAS12 which is very common around the world has different threads.

So in short does anybody know if the Hatsan MPA-TS threads are indeed M22x.75?

CRJ,

EDIT: Maybe SN275271 is the one after which the threads became the common variety?

Just got a reply from Hatsan and this was their response:

"It is metric 21,5 x 0,75 mm thread"

Apparently this is the same as M22x.75 as it is somewhere in the middle (a bit towards the small side) of the tolerances of M22x.75.

Does that one have any screw-on chokes for the external threads?

Regardless if it is indeed so and this works owners of that shotgun might also benefit from a S12 choke/adapter.

What about the outer diameter of the barrel?

Mine is about .84 inch but my caliper is not that precise. The Saiga 12 is typically .88 from what I read although apparently they vary (as all sloppy eastern firearms it seems haha). But I read some guy measured his to be about .85, there must be some flexibility in the accessories designed from this thing right? Does anybody know what the tolerances on something like this would be?

had e-mail`d kings armory last winter about a choke adapter for the hatsan mpa they said the thread pitch was slightly different then the saiga`s m22x.75 and that they where working a design to release one in the future,i tried contacting them later about it but got no reply, maybe if anyone`s interested drop them an e-mail about it hopefully there will be enough interest to at least get some responce. thanks i think a choke adapter for the hatsan mpa`s would top off an excellent package. let the e-mails start good luck

It screws on just fine and is tight. I removed the rubber ring to get it closer.

No idea if it fires safely, I feel safe testing it soon when I get the chance. The ID of the choke is slightly greater than the ID of the barrel, which is safe as opposed to the opposite. There is a slight gap between the end of the barrel and start of the choke which is beveled. But since the choke starts wider it shouldn't be a problem.

Since we're talking about a plastic wad here under pressure it should flow through just fine, it's only a modified. If lead can do it so can lead wrapped in plastic.
