Has anyone tried one of these shiny shotguns?

I like the nickel coating on the Remington 870 Marine Magnum, but the price of a new one is getting out of hand. (A local Victoria dealer sells them for about $800).

The Hatsans look interesting, and the prices are pretty good as well. The search function and Google don't show many reviews, so here I am polling my fellow gunnutz.

Please post your experiences and comments.
Thanks, Geoff.

I have one i got last year at a shot show for $350 no tax. 20" 8shot. its a really good deal and grate gun. comes with a pistol grip and full stock.

the remington and winchester are the other two really good weather guns. i'm not sure about the mossberg.

its up to you what you think looks and feels best. the 870 looks cool and the winchester is real pretty but the hatsan holds one more round and is half the price. as for function the hatsan is just as good as the other two maybe not as smooth as the remington but its a good pump gun that works and you wont be mad about buying.

also its not shinny its like semi-flat alumminum.

My wife has one and we've had no problems with it. Only complaint is that there is no real rear site and after much googling and CGN searching I've never found an aftermarket or alternative.

It's "good enough" but if you buy one I'll bet I see it on the EE within 2 years as you raise funds for what you really want. Seems to be a common pattern.

Save yourself some time (and money in the long run) wait and buy what you want then keep it forever and will it to your cyborg grand children.

Great advice! Thanks all for your input.

Just got mine in the mail today. Regardless of what anyone says, fit and finish feels better than my mossy 535, the 590 I had, any of the 870s I've handled lately, and especially better than a Stevens 350. I have not shot it yet however, so not sure about possible ejection troubles. On the other hand, I'm already not a fan of the front sight or lack of upgrades available for this gun. If you're going for a shotgun in this price range (250-300 max) then a marineguard is a very good one IMO.

I love my Hatsan. Sure, its no s**tkicker like an 870, but i like how it is light. oh yeah, one time i was having an idiot moment, and i drove over Hatsan in a soft case with my truck. the trigger lock punched through the case, but the gun was fine. The only trouble i have ever had was on ocasion, if you try to ease the pumping process, you would get 2 shells competing to get into the breech. But as my friend say all you have to to do to insure flawless functioning, is give it "a viloent pump"

Hate to hijack but where / is there after market parts for Hatsan shotguns IE for grips buttocks...

I think the Hatsan Escort line is a licensed copy of FabArm, so FabArm parts should work. The Shooting Edge has FabArm parts, but they are expensive. I have seen Hatsan parts on Frontier Firearms, and the guy from Ceder Valley Hunting might be able to get you Hatsan accessories as well. Marstar seems to sell pistol grips, etc. for their Turkish shotgun line which I think is produced by Hatsen as well (because the pistol grips look exactly the same). They are much cheaper than the FabArm accessories. S&J Hardware sells a single point sling attachment for a FabArm, so it should fit on a Hatsen.

Best of luck!

Love mine. Added heat shield to complete the look.
