Hey guys, bought this 410. single shot Hatsan Optima brand new from sail in Oshawa Ont. I noticed it was dirty when I bought it, gave it a good cleaning then I notice a ring about 1/4" away from the end of the muzzle but it seems to be like that to the end of the muzzle. Is this normal? it's supposed to be a cylinder choke barrel. Hopefully it's nothing.

I haven't shot it yet to see how it patterns, but I do have my concerns.

Any help would be appreciated guys.

Thanks.

Looks like the shoulder a threaded choke would seat against.

Perhaps Hatsan when manufacturing cyl bore guns just deletes the part of the process where the threads are tapped.

Possibly, the optima O/U line accepts screw in chokes but not the SB-W models which mine is.. I don't see why they would use the same barrels from there O/U series for the much more cost effective single shot line though, seems that would be much to pricey? I'm not sure.

actually discovered last night while cleaning the shotgun, that at the very end of the muzzle, almost exactly where the muzzle ring is, it becomes increasingly harder to run my brush/swab through.

So what does this mean? My fixed cylinder .410 is actually a modified or full choke?

Measure the bore to find out what the amount of restriction is.

And it is quite likely that the O/U barrels are used singly in the single shot lineup. 1 machine can now make everything that cuts manufacturing costs substantially. They only need 1 for your gun not 2 so there are your cost savings right there.

The camo model of that Hatsan can be purchased with interchangable chokes in 20 or 12 guage. They may have added the 410 bore now as well? Maybe your lucky and got that barrel?

Sort of, its not entirely clear about what the diameter of bore is supposed to be, the charts seem to show how much the barrel is constricted with the broad range of chokes available, it's hard to tell what exactly is the unit measurement they use as well to determine the size of chokes.

.410 is the measurement in inches. .410 = 0.41 inches..

Now to figure out how I could measure the bore without a Vernier caliper.. maybe i'll just have to bite the bullet and go get one.

Got confirmation from Hatsan customer service, it seems that the line of .410's for 2013 is made with a fixed modified choke. Now running a .45 OTIS brush through the bore makes more sense why it closed up so much near the muzzle... still want to check the diameter though.

I'm pretty sure Slugs are still okay to shoot through modified though correct??

All foster style rifled slugs are designed to be fired through a full choke. People have been doing it for ages. Sabot slugs designed for rifles barrels are another issue. If it says RIFLED SLUG on the box you are good to go.

Got a phone call from bell distributors who handle the Hatsan customer service, the gentleman who phoned was very pleasant and very informative. Apparently all the Hatsan .410 SW-B use FULL choke. So that explains quite a bit, he said the reasoning is that it would be useless to make it in anything else because you won't have a very good distance with .410 in any other barrel type, the shot would just disperse too much and it would be useless unless you were within 10 feet. Makes sense to me, so that explains quite a bit. They mentioned also that the 16 and 12 GA are modified while the 20 and .410 are full

Either way though my mind is at ease!

Thanks for all the replies folks really helped a lot!
