I spent hours and hours looking for a non restricted fun rifle online at 200-700 dollars. Instead found ammo I thought was well priced 1440 milsurp rounds when I was looking at the cz858 and SKS.

So now I have ammo but no rifle and I do want something that's still fun at 300-400 yards even though groupings won't be near comparable to modern rifles.

Any advice? Worth going to the Markham gun show next weekend?

Markham gun show is OK, mostly overpriced stuff you can find anywhere.
Neither the CZ nor SKS will give you satisfying groups at 3-400y.
I would still recommend the CZ but Im sure the SKS crowd will be onhere shortly telling you different.

I'm an SKS owner and I'd recommend the CZ. Your typical SKS will give you 15-20" groups at 300-400 - CZ's are typically half that (assuming the shooter does his part). AFAIK, there is no Norc that shoots 7.62x39 on our market other than their SKS.

What about a norinco of sorts? Anything under 500$ ?

You will get mixed feelings about the Norincos.

I have nothing but good things to say about them but I dont think anyone has the calibre in stock. I have been shopping for one the last few weeks. If you find one let me know where.

If you just want to process the ammo get an SKS Chinese about 200 Russian about 250 and have some fun. As far as I am concerned they are almost the same no real difference may fit and finish but that is about it.

I just dont know who buys Ammo before they buy a gun...lol I guess you did...lol

Stay safe and have fun.....lol

Go get an sks or the cz, neither is a good 3-400 yard target rifle unless your killing sheets of plywood. Lots of fun to shoot with surplus rounds, and yes i also buy ammo for firearms i don`t have, gives you a good reason to shop for more toys. Plus a good deal was found on ammo and i intended on getting the rifle down the road anyway. Have fun.

I've gone one step above and bought dies for a cartridge I dont even shoot but mind you I needed the neck expander and figured I would be getting an Enfield one of these days so just got the die set.

Bfiles I was interested in that Norc 7.62x39 bolt gun but think its discontinued which means if you want one now you'll probably have to pay a mint on the EE if no one has any left in stock.

I'd vote SKS+Mosin and still have dough left for ammo ;)

It all comes down to how much you want to spend for your 7.52x39.

$700? CZ
$200? SKS

You could get those numbers down a touch if you buy used off the EE.

How much did your "well priced" 1440 rounds cost?

Meet up with someone who has a rifle that fires your cartridge, and make fair exchange. You provide ammo and he/she provides rifle so that both of you can shoot, and you can get a feel for what rifle you may end up enjoying. Options are limited for the 7.62x39, and non-existent for the range at which you wish to shoot. You may wish to examine another cartridge option if that range is non-negotiable. If that does not work, then just sell off your ammo.

how much was the ammo ?

Corrosive ?

I've been watching prices and it turns around 280- 300$ with shipping and taxes for 1200-1440 rounds for corrosive.

My 2 cents

dude, you're by markham? hop on over to lebarons on Woodbine and 407, grab yourself a russian hardwood stocked SKS for $174 and walk out there with a rifle for less than 200 bucks. Whats the issue here?

GOOD POINT. Bing and staff are friends of mine, their SKS refurbs are very nice. Oh, and you can drool over the other stuff they have in stock.
I got a $50 gift card to lebaron from my Mo-in-law... need to spend it soon.
