Hey Guys;

Having been the victim of theft in past years (two hang on stands stolen) and once again this year (two SpyPoint trail cams stolen), I got wondering what everyone else's experiences have been while hunting?

Cheers
Jay

The first time that this happened to me, I was hunting crown land & arrived to find that BOTH my hang on tree stands were gone. From that point forward, I put up & took down my stand each time I hunted. I hid the stand in the leaf litter so I did not have to carry it far, but it was still a pain...

Yesterday, during our regular maintenance trip to the deer property we have access to, we discovered two SpyPoint trail cams had been stolen. One was destroyed with the cable & lock left behind. The other had the strap cut with a knife. We found part of the strap on the trail.

Sadly, it seems dirtbags are trespassing onto this private property & our concern is now that they could vandalize the stands prior to the season.

It sure takes the wind out of your sails... What's been your experiences guys?

Cheers
Jay

Had some SOB use a chainsaw to cut down 3 trees to steal the stands.Trespassers on clearly posted land asking us why we were there ,the only one's permitted on the place.Had a friend shot at on horseback wearing orange from a truck driving the road a 1/4 mile away...........Harold

For a decade me and the family were the only ones allowed onto some prime hunting area (a hilly, half wooded section of pasture - a section is 1 mile square for those that don't know), privately owned, by simply asking for permission and getting it in writing. Due to jealous hunters who used to trespass and poach there, thwarted by knowing law-abiding hunters were now randomly on the property, I had stuff stolen out of the bed of the truck (tarp to keep it clean when deer was loaded in, etc) when it was parked outside the fence and even had the front windshield shot out by a shotgun when parked inside.

There was another incident as well (that I won't mention openly) that resulted in the owner getting mad enough to sell the property to a "corporate farmer-type" who spent two years and bulldozed the whole thing flat: the new owner now farms wheat and canola there. It was the first owner's choice, but now not a single animal crosses that field.

I have pulled down a couple of tree stands on my one quarter sections a couple of years ago, hunting with out permission ticks me off, I now charge everyone that does it on my land, let the cops sort them out.

a friend of mine had this issue last year and the culprit was an outfitter.
the COs told him to keep the stand

Trespassers, regularly. Damaged irrigation pipe, usually from being run over. Fences cut for access. Game being shot from boats or shoreline on private property. No livestock losses. Yet.

Sitting on 1500 acres more or less, with nearly 2 1/2 miles of river frontage, and a road right through the middle of it.

Calling 911, and having the police respond, is getting to be the default reaction to firewood cutters and trespassers who think that the signs are 'for other people'. Politeness wasn't working. Word seems to be getting around, as no recent problems with. But every season brings new folks.

A couple years back we found a stolen dump truck stashed on the property too. Happy times. Not.

Luckily haven't had an issue yet. Hunting pretty close to the big city there is always a concern when leaving the truck parked and going for a walk, especially when i start hearing two stroke engines from the general direction of my truck... But so far it's been left untouched.

Don't have any tree stands or cameras so can't have them f&*%ed with. Don't have any private property either (the one place I can hunt that's private is an active farm so there isn't really anywhere to set up a tree stand) Good chance I build a blind on crown land next week for our up coming moose hunt, we'll see if its still up come November...

Nothing new .. Back in the 60's me my dad and his friend had our stove and back of pickup custom overhang tent stolen.. Came back at the end of the day and everything was gone
Britain was able to populate Australia with thieves

I had water pump crap out in me a few years ago out hunting and in the few hours it took to to go get a replacement it was looted and burnt to the ground. Too close to the Rez. I've found prints a few where you could see people had looked in as well. I leave a note on the seat that says "say cheese" now

We have a family deer camp on a hundred acres since 1908. It has been broken into countless times over the years. It has been an evolution of theft deterrent over the years. It hasn't been broken into in some time now, touch wood.

I have a friend whose deer camp was destroyed a few years back by a bear. He now has bear boards all around the building.

At our moose camp, every year our tree hides were vandalized (doors ripped off, plastic windows cut), and during moose hunting (this is on posted private property BTW) random guys would trespass by removing a large chain and driving up, supposedly wanting to hunt small game when challenged.

I carried my canoe three miles back to an isolated lake in Northern Ontario. A couple of weeks later, there it was, gone! Fishermen were flown to this lake and that's how I think it left. And this was in the early '80's.
