Have you ever lost your motivation

I have been going through a bit of that motivation thing for the last few years. I became a new father 6 years ago, and my boy finally showed some interest to go out with dad! We went down to the LGS and bought ourselves a pair of sling shots and lots of ammo for them!

I drove us out to one of my favorite grouse hunting areas, and had three in the truck in no time! My son and I got to a local gravel pit and we got out to shoot our slingshots together. After about 10 minutes of instruction, he was having a ball!
He wasnt hitting much yet, but he was grinning from ear to ear!

Shortly after that, he asked me if he could have a picture of him and a grouse I had shot. He wanted a field photo like I usually do with my game animals. So I took a few pictures of him holding his sling shot and a Ruffed Grouse! He looked so proud in the pictures, so I had to share these moments!

I would like to post a couple of pictures, but the cell service is so bad here, I cannot access the pictures I want to post on photobucket! Maybe later today.

Since my boy has shown so much interest, my motivation has been kick started again! We just have to find that "trigger" to put ourselves back on track! Mine was my boys smile!

Been at it for 45 years. Hunting has changed greatly..land use, accessibility, big game numbers down ...etc. If I could go back to the 1970's I would at a drop of a hat. Too many with special privileges raping the resource with less opportunity for those that have to or choose to play by the rules. This is in Manitoba...cant speak for the rest of the nation... Some days I feel like just packing in the hunting as I had a good run at it. Not nuts about the cold and or inclement weather anymore as well.

I hear you. Same thing going on here in Sask. Other than the big problem of the special privilege crowd worst thing that happened IMHO was when the world record white tal was taken. All of a sudden everyone turned into a trophy hound and land owners posted the crap out of everything to either keep out the crowds or keep the game for themselves. Add a string of crappy winters and you get to the what's the point of even trying stage. It has been said in this thread to just keep going further into more remote spots but that is hundreds of miles away just to get away from private land.

Luckily I still have a few good friends that let someone they trust onto the land nearby. Perhaps a couple of years with slim Pickens might thin the hunter numbers out a bit as well. I heard in the wind that a few of the outfitters around have had big drops in bookings from the states. This year I really had to make myself go out and I guess I will see how next year goes.

I worked during the elk rut and missed out on all the fun. Now I have a little more time but I don't have the motivation. I have tried, but the elk herds I know about are spooked now from the previous hunters and not responding to my calls. I'm struggling to want to get out there. I need to find a new honey hole and a job with higher pay and more time off. I'm done sobbing for now.
