have you ever owned a ruger 96?

negatives

I can only think of one negative, the trigger is sometimes a little heavy, but on mine, I polished all the surfaces and modified the rear crosspin, now I have a decent trigger at about 3 or so pounds. Other than that, you have a myriad of barrels available, up to 50 round mags, and if you are good at woodworking, can use a 10/22 magnum stock for something different. Biggest issue is availability, Ruger stopped making them a few years back and most who have them won't let them go. I posted an ad on here when I found mine, and one of our members let me know where there was one. I snapped it up, and love it to pieces. 10/22 magnum stock, 77/22 bull barrel in 16.5" fluted, trigger polished by yours truly. I have many rimfires and very few will shoot Fed bulk well, this one does, and I haven't bedded it, I'm scared to. Later

Dad has two. We've never had a major issue. The one was damaged in a flood and required a new stock and rebluing, but other than that there is nothing to report.

Hot Lips magazines have shown some issues with them. The steel lips work quite nice. Same thing as we have found with our 10-22.

My personal favorite reason for using a 96-22 is that you are not always loaded after every shot. I don't trust any safety enough to rely on it, so I tend to have to work the bolt quite a bit on a semi.
